The average rainfall in Sydney, Australia for June is 130.6 millimeters. We've had 81 millimeters already in just six days of June! This post has been submitted to SKY WATCH FRIDAY!!

At first glance I thought: "How come? Pre historic photos of the famous flying dino?" ... only then, foolish me, I read your words ... an australian ibis that is!
Lovely.

Really wonderful use of a textured sky Anonybird. That first shot is a pearl!

Thanks G3TFilms! It's not easy getting them in frame and focused when they are flying as fast as they can!!

Not as fast as me running away from the ickle flamey mouth of dat dwagon!

I'm NOT a mouse G3TFilms! I ma flying in circles today ... ;)

Hi Klaus, thanks! We're either wishing for rain or wanting it to stop here, if it's not flooding there's a drought!

Just great !!

Nice weekend to you, with some more great shots.

Indrani said...

Beautiful, How well you have captured the flying bird! It is very difficult I know.

Caroline said...

Wow - stunning clouds and you got the bird so clearly too. Amazing

I hope you are not all going to drown - I thought Australia was meant to be having a drought - it sounds like that's broken. Or is it just where you are?

! oh yes rain! :o)

Fantastic pictures, love the feather detales..

Can't beat drama Sandpiper ;)

Thankyou for your "nice weekend" wish Anemone! I hope the rain stops for a little photography :)

Thanks Indrani! Waiting or luck has a lot to do with capturing birds in flight :) Unless you scream "BOO"!

Lucky with their subtle glowing colour Caroline - though mostly white :) We are still having a drought, it's just going to take years to catch up... they need more rain mostly inland!

Oh yes RAIN Simon! It's flooding all over the place down here!

Thanks Ida!

Hello Tom, thankyou again for hosting Skywatch Friday! Those feathers have tales to tell ;)

Caroline said...

I suppose rain during droughts is often useless anyway - on such hard baked earth it must run off quite quickly.

Just south of us there are people in danger of flooding again this year... the ground is so saturated it only takes a little more rain to cause problems.

Anonymous said...

Caroline, we are having flooding problems here on the outskirts of Sydney, mostly North. It's a long weekend and REALLY cross my fingers I can have an overnight stay somewhere but it doesn't look promising right now ...

Bimbimbie said...

You Sydney people are just plain greedy*!* I was enjoying our bit of rain before it decided to head further south to your neck of the woods LOL

... Brilliant photos Anony, so I'll forgive the rain clouds, they obviously had a date to keep with the Ibis. Tusp*!*

Anonymous said...

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! I'm hoping the date wasn't a successful one and the clouds will fly back your way pronto! Sydney people don't want this rain, even to just boast about REALLY! Heehee :))

Daniel J Santos said...

Fantastic capture, excellent done.

GASP! These are soooo beautiful. Those skies! I'm always amazed when people can get a good shot of a moving bird against the sky, but then I haven't had a really good camera in years. But still... it would have been long gone while I was still figuring the exposure!

PS:-hah! blogger wouldn't allow me to use the tag "geek rant" when I just tried to post :)

Anonymous said...

Thankyou DanielJSantos :)

Hhehee, thanks Bird! Those skies are pretty horrible aren't they - for a long weekend! HAHHAAA Blogger must be sensitive to actually being a place for geek ranting ;)

Anonymous said...

The birds are held in wonderful relief by the clouds. Have a good long weekend.

Anonymous said...

Wow! These are fantastic. You did a great job capturing not only the sky but the bird.

These are something for me to remember over the next week. Thanks for sharing these!

Anonymous said...

The only bird cooler than a pelican in flight must be an ibis! Love your shots.
