King Jack Appreciation Society Badge
Weekdays, at 3pm Jack grows very excited, bobbing up and down, singing and racing around his Castle. Shortly the school bell will notify everyone the King will soon suitably be covered in kisses, cuddles, have a head massage, be given a treat or a bouquet of flowers! Often there was a brigade of at least six admirers visiting in crisp white shirts.
We can only imagine last Friday, Jack’s first day of being lost was spent hiding in bushes, frightened and bewildered. Perhaps, he remained very well hidden in our own backyard. However, the local Rainbow Lorikeets wouldn’t have liked that! Jack belonged in his Castle, besides he looked different wearing a red collar instead of green.
Across the street is a Giant Lorikeet Tree, three times the size of ours. It’s hidden right up the back of a very large property owned by a Wicked Witch! Many times I eyed the Giant Lorikeet Tree, knowing it was the last tree left in the suburb that hadn’t been thoroughly searched. Every time we went outside we made sure our calls reached the tree from the opposite side of the road. However, no one was game enough to sneak past the Wicked Witch to stand beneath the tree itself.

Jack's Poster Image
The young posse of Jack’s Fans tried to enter the Wicked Witch’s property from the opposite side but thick gnarly bushes blocked their way and they were tripped by prickly vines wrapping around their arms and legs. Thank feathers it was a weekend and they weren’t wearing white shirts. They did hang Jack’s Poster all around the perimeter which disappeared!
I am convinced Jack was in that tree for an extended weekend! It was filled with a profusion of fresh Gumnut Flowers dripping with pollen. The Rainbows wouldn’t have noticed Jack betwixt the thick canopy and gorging themselves. A perfect well stocked hideaway with views of the entire suburb!
Monday afternoon, the 3.05pm bell resonated throughout the school, across the field, piercing the awry bushes, coiling around the grasping vines, and escalating to the very top of the Giant Lorikeet Tree. It was time to play!
Jack swooped downward into the playground but was accordingly alarmed by the hundreds of feet marching outwards! He hid, staying close-by, bemused by his portrait staring back from the classroom windows. Jack dared not venture out until the thunder of footsteps lessened to light skips. This was when he found hula hoops all colours of the rainbow just like himself and reminiscent of the hula hoop at home!

We all remember how much Jack loves twirling!
Jack joined in hanging on for a ride, resting on the shoulders of all those who wore white shirts between hopping amongst multihued twirls of plastic. At 5pm the autumn sun lowered behind the suburb’s hills and the After School Care children were supposed to move inside to play. Jack was also accustomed to moving from his Castle to indoors at this time. That same time our phone rang. With Jack’s Poster in hand, earlier pulled from a window, the After School Carer enquired whether our Parrot was still missing!!!
When Jack’s non feathered Brother arrived in the playground, there was a boy of equal size with same coloured hair and a white shirt standing midpoint an amused circle of Giggly Gerties. Furthermore, the boy had two brothers with the same names as Jack’s brothers! Jack was perched on the boy’s shoulder, cocking his head and greeting with a questioning “hello?” to each face.
The rest is history; bona fide history! Jack had his first drive in a car leaping from his Dad’s and Brother’s shoulders repeatedly whistling, “Hello!” When he arrived home he smelt like a million blossom flowers. He sang like he’s never sung before, apart from a short break when he saw his indoor cage being brought in from the tree outside. Jack mumbled, “Oh, bugga!” He was forgiven by all but mostly by AnonyBird because it was also the first night Jack called me “Mum”. Not once, but many times!!!

We’re teaching Jack to recite his address after his name! Also, next weekend we’re shopping for a Feather Tether Bird Harness! That way Jack can safely travel with us without being in a cage. Once Feather Tether experts in the backyard, we’re going to cross the road and introduce ourselves to the Wicked Witch!
Wow, it really did pay to put up those posters!
I'm not sure Possum would appreciate me trying to teach him how to do those tricks... he might throw up seeds everywhere.
PS. Is that witch spelt with a silent B?
YUP, the posters did it G3TFilms! Think again about tricks after being Possum's Slave for a year, you'll be amazed at how far your relationship has progressed :)
PS: Is there a witch with a silent B neighbouring you too!?!
wow...the posters worked...amazing that you taught him these tricks...what fun!
It's important to keep putting posters up, there was a Ranger pulling them down behind us! Heehee, Jack mostly taught himself Diana Evenas, especially the swear words ;)
What a fabulous post.
Thankyou Ces :) I apologise for taking so long to post ...
OOOps sorry Diana Evans, I said something funky for your last name :O
This is an interesting blog. Jack is so colorful and beautiful....or should I say handsome?
I don't normally write on this blog Andrea, but recently Lost Jack entails bending the rules :) HEE!! Jack is colourful, beautiful and handsome, all rolled into one!
oh jeez. what a story. what a happy ending. what a family.
what a great blog and blogger...
:)
*bobbing up and down* KJ! :))
What drama, what emotion!
A parrot south of here, lost for quite a long time, was found ten kilometres away and across two rivers; it came down to take part in a session of play with radio-controlled cars.
[But you won't want to know that its wings are now clipped].
Tsup*!* Tsup*!* ... I think King Jack was kidnapped by that bwitch with the Giant Lorikeet Tree ...
Thank goodness he heard those gigling gerties and went to say hello and that the after school carer managed to get hold of your poster before the man from the council recycled them
... a fairybird ending *!*
I say, that's a topping royal King Jack badge, well done anony Tsup*!* I'll roll out the magical red carpet for visitors to fly over to visit King Jack in his castle tsup*!*
HAHA, pleased to entertain ElizT! That New Zealand Parrot had experience with radio-comtrolled cars before? Parrots LOVE to play! Especially when you feel like it's time to rest ;)
Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! I'll be able to tell whether you're right about the wicked bwitch by noting how red or blue her face will turn when we visit! Heehee, it was a fairybird ending! PHEW!!
Thankyou again for the idea about having a badge for King Jack's Admirers ... he will also use the carpet to pay Royal visits to the Society Members! Tsup*!*
Tsup*!* yes virtual visits only to his many happy subjects ... he knows that does he lol *?*
Tsup *!* HAHHHAAAA, yes he does know he'll only be visiting virtually Bimbimbie :))
Glad Jack is home safely. That's quite a story you both have to tell. Good for you to educate the public on how to find a lost bird. That twirling would make me dizzy, though. Thanks for visiting my blog!
Hello Kathiesbirds! There's quite a bit of reading here lately, but after Skywatching tomorrow, we should be back to mostly images :) The last time I tried hula hooping was .... a year ago ;) You're welcome back anytime!
I was distracted when I posted my comments and meant to say much more. Actually I also have so many questions. For example why can't Jack fly to you when you call his name. This is a tremendous rescue story. What a great family, family pet and rescue party. I hope that witch turns out to be like Glenda or Samantha. Now to copy and post that beautiful bird photo to my blog!
I read this story again and savored every word like a bird savoring every drop of nectar from a blossom. That "hello" must have been very sweet and "Mum" oh boy. Thanks to those who took care of Jack while he was away from his castle.
Mum? Awwwwww.... :))))))
Jack, the intrepid adventurer, we salute you! (But don't ever do it again)
That would make a good children's book by the way (Jack's story, as told by Jack).
Every time I read that Jack is home, I'm relieved all over again! What a great post and the badge is awesome! I shall add it to my site as soon as Computer Guru Hubby returns from work. I hope that the meeting with the Wicked Witch goes well ... if anyone can win over the wicked, it's JACK! Bwark! Bob bob bob!
Glad Jack had'nt begun to lose his connection to the Anonies during his intrepid explorations. A good recollection of how he was re-united and phone-home picture too!
Hi again Ces :) Birds aren't like dogs who arrive when called, they aren't like cats either who mostly run away or ignore you. If hidden, birds will stick their head out and look at you, especially if the middle of the day when they're sleeping off the morning nectar. Like banging a spoon on a can for a cat, there are triggers we have for Jack to come to us. Wiggling a finger, putting one arm to the side as a perch, ringing a bell, grapes! Jack is the Leader and decides WHEN he wants something and WHERE it will be. His flight skills are also trained for indoor flying where there's no breeze! OH GOODIE! Another King Jack Appreciation Member :)
MerlinPrincesse, Hhehheee, we worked out he's always said it but in a different way. Formally it was a long drawn out whinge (like how the boys mostly call).
Jack's story as told by Jack is two posts down and is mostly talking about being drunk Debra Kay! HAHHAAAAA.
YIPEEEE, another King Jack Appreciation Member! Hhehheee, Jack knows how to be very brave now, so it's up to me to conjure the guts to visit the Wicked Witch, Melissa ;)
That's a great point Captain Modroom! Jack was extraordinarily happy and excited to have found us. It's taken about four days to calm down again and glad he didn't turn feral! Thanks :)
Jack now resides in the place of honour formally reserved for the only other society to which I belong, the VFD.
I mean his badge of course, not the ACTUAL Jack.
PHEW! For a moment there I almost flew off to check whether King Jack was at your place G3TFilms! He still wants to show your Possum special door tricks! That means there could be a Series of Unfortunate Events!!! Thanks for being a Royal Jack Admirer :))
What a great way to get him back.
It was a good scenario Caroline :)
lovely birds ;)
Thankyou Ruela :)
Thank goodness Jack's back! I was just skimming through your blog when I arrived back home from Skye and it took a while for me to work out he'd been found after all :) What a lovely end to the story. I can tell how relieved you are, and I love that he smelled of a thousand blossoms and called you mum... sweet!
OH, sorry you had to hold your breath for a while, Bird! Jack continues to be sweetly scented, even after quite a few baths - the blossoms must still be in his system :))
Mum!
damn. the link broke.
that was catnapping trying to be cute.
Heehee, very cute Catnapping :)
I missed a lot Anony. I'm so relieved you found Jack. I'm kind of glad I didn't know he'd gone missing, until after he was found again! You must be very happy to have him home again!
You DID miss quite a lot Red Mojo! I wasn't online as much as usual myself when Jack 'disappeared'. YAYYYYY he's back! Actually, might even keep him inside today, the Rainbows are in rotten moods and it's really cold out there!
YAY YOU'RE back Red Mojo!!!
You can find those who appreciate ME and carry my badge, linked in the sidebar. BWARKKK!!!!!
