The Old Muscovy's name is Andrew and he's a friend of my son's.
Are you wearing a swimming costume Anon?
The Chestnut Teal - whom I shall refer to as Chesney - is so beautiful he does not look real!
Do you have white mallards? We have a white duck like that one in the Dell - I assumed it had strayed there.
As for Andrew, oh I say, rather grand old Duke me thinks ;)
It seems like Andrew let you get pretty close. His complexion could use a little something.
Yes I am wearing my cossie Miladysa. Can't you tell, it isn't THAT revealing. The top is orange and bottom lime green. Quite tasty, I believe ;) I have seen a handful of white Mallards, most probably discarded pets.
Poor old Andrew! My son MADE me take his photograph in the shade after waiting for him to move for about fifteen minutes. I was not popular by saying Andrew wasn't really 'blog star' material, Red Mojo. Yes, his complexion had a lot to do with my attitude...
That teal's feathers are just gorgeous. I had a bright spot in the day last week when I saw two bluebirds! They're scarce around here this time of year and their indigo feathers were so pretty against the bland trees and woods.

Not sure that link worked ... oh, well. Just google Eastern bluebird and you'll see the beauty I'm talking about. :)
mmmnnn I am thin ing about bbq with orange sauce.... ;o)
thinning??? thinKing!
Your link worked Melissa, and even with the female described as "drab gray-blue with duller reddish chest", both bluebirds would have been bright sparks to your day!
Well, it's lunchtime Simon, and perhaps it was your subconscious saying "thinning" was a better idea than "thinking" about barbecuing a Chestnut Teal! HAHA.
These are magnificent shots. On the first three photographs, the duck's color beautiful contrasts with the blue on the ground. The shade of green brings out the duck's dark color. Very lovely Anon. These are my favorites.
Ducks are mean. They used to chase me and bite me when I was a little girl.
You have a fine eye Ces, the reflection of the sky was factored into bringing out the red when taking those shots :) We really must work on your 'duck issue'. I haven't ever met a mean duck!
Yes, they were indeed mean when they were feeding and I would pass by. Not that I was afraid because the meanies did not have any teeth anyway but they behave like they are chewing or slurping your leg. It was irritating and I could not retaliate. I think those ducks were almost domesticated. They sneaked into the kitchen and when I saw them they would stop and stare at me waiting for me to tell them to go away and they would calmly go but leave nasty presents for me to clean up. We should have butchered them but I don't like to eat duck, they are almost pets and were rather smart.
Hmmmm, if you were feeding and a raft of ducks passed by, wouldn't you be chewing and slurping away Ces? Also, if you snuck into their kitchen (food area), would you not stare at them to see what they would do next? Is it true you would expect them to tell you to scram? Then you would calmly leave, perhaps leaving something behind to show your disgust at not being accepted? Now you can understand and forgive ;)
jeez ces, your best friend is kind of a duck. time to patch up your childhood traumas.....
anon, i thought you doctored these shots. how do you consistently capture this magnificance?
oh, did i mention ces and i plan to camp out in your backyard??
:)
KJ, the birds don't need doctoring, they are magnificant in their natural habitats - like Jack in the Christmas Tree Heeheee.
Oh, I didn't mention there have been and are six 12 to 13 year old boys making a Jackass Stunt Movie in the backyard with skateboards, bikes, tires and fire? Then there is the garage down there with six 16 year olds who only surface to practise their martial arts on the 13 year olds every couple of days after a dozen or so martial art Movie Madness Parties?
No way. I am not camping. I am staying at a hotel by the ocean where Anon took those shots on her photography blog.
Hhehheee, unfortunately my house is by that ocean and there is no hotel here Ces. Plenty of beaches and hotels all the way around the edge of Australia though ;)
