2008 Pool Party

Welcome to the 2008 Pool Party! We will be spending the remains of Australian summer in and around water. Plenty of time to dive in and by the party's conclusion, you will all be feeling water logged!

Considering it’s freezing where most Birdstalkers are flying in from, there’s tad trepidation about the water temperature!

It's not always best to be first to the pool!

This Noisy Miner is thinking of waiting until someone else tests the temperature first ...

Noisy is prudent! :) Wise bird! I do the same when I go to the pool! I will not go first in the pool! Let's wait for the others..Hheheh. Helloooo Noisy!!!
A mermaid has to keep a certain standing.... };-}

We have an old bath in the paddock that doubles as a horse trough. Many a time, I've found a drowned bird in there because the water level was too low and they've been caught against the slippery sides. Maybe this little chicken has visited my bath and is taking the wiser path!

It's now empty seeing as the horses are elsewhere and the swimming pool has become a safer and more attractive bathing place. None of them use the bloody bird bath!

Noisy says "Hello" MerlinPrincesse, but she isn't happy about having to wait for someone braver than you! Or do you leave that up to Zeus? HEEHEE

We have several baths Onedia, and if you stay for the party we'll be seeing others in Sydney :) I'll visit your Backyard soon!

Heeehee, it's going to take a week of chickens before we see one even dipping a tail Baino :) The birds don't like the chlorine in our paddle pool and are more likely to drown in it because leaks and never full. Birds like their baths under trees which serve as diving boards and a fast hiding place, maybe your birdbath needs moving?

Being the first at the party must be a lot of pressure for the Minor, it has to build up the party atmosphere all by itself.

Modroom, the Miner's not doing a good job!

That noisy hasn't even dipped a toe in, that I can see. This is going to be a long summer...

Okay, it's going to be more than a week of chickens before we see one dipping a tail! By the end of February you will be glad for taking your time before diving straight in Red Mojo. You might have ended up like a bird in Baino's bath! Heehee

Firstly I love these photographs. I agree with Onedia about that first photograph and I also particularly favour nos 6 and 7. It's almost as if these little fellows know they are going to become blog stars :)

Secondly I'm off to move our bird table to a more suitable position under a tree. Well correction, it's too heavy for me to move so I'll get the old man to do it when he returns. I always thought the bath itself was the problem, it's a piece of ancient stone with a hollow in the middle, found it in a garden one day and thought it would make a lovely bird bath. Always thought the birds didn't use it because it was a bit beneath them. I look forward to seeing if it really is all about location location location!

Have a lovely weekend :)

LOL -- Anon, he really does look like he's a bit confused ... "hhmmmm, this water looks delightful, but it was so cold where I flew from ... am I dreaming?" I heard a birdsong on a movie last night and I got so excited -- not much singing going around here lately. But it's fun to see the winter guys and gals at the feeders!

Someone is going to test the water soon, just like in the pool. Someone will jump in without testing the water and then the noisy miner will follow, feet first, slowly.

I do believe some of my backyard birds 'pose' for the camera Miladysa! Hoe exciting! I would love to know about the results from your bird bath relocation! Use a tree they already favour :)

HEEHEE! I've never thought about the birds not singing when it snows Melissa; at least you know they are still around :)

HAHA you are an expert with watching a pool Ces! You don't think it will be the Miner who bombs everyone else by jumping in? :)

Will do Anon ;)

I meant "how" exciting and not 'hoe' exciting, no need for digging holes unless also making a frog pond Miladysa :)
