Double-banded Plover

The Double-banded Plover migrates to New Zealand where it breeds and moves back to the warmer Australian east coast, usually arriving in Autumn and leaving during Spring.

The world’s only Longitudinal Migrants, travelling from east to west and back! Its non-breeding plumage is quite plain.

Today is Mother’s Day in Australia, so I won’t be returning here until later…

Happy Mother's Day Anon!

I was surprised to read that Peter Plover migrated - he looks far too laid back to be bothered :-D

Uh-oh ... I feel it coming on ... a bad bout of I-must-pick-this-bird-up-and-snuggle-it!!

What a beauty! And that Godwit is just too cool -- I love the shot with its mouth open. It's always amazing to see the long-billed birds with their mouths open. Holy cow! Hummingbirds are like that -- I saw one with its bill open once and it looked so funny. :)

Happy Mother's Day, Anon!

Shhhhh! I have snuck out of bed and will have to return before the family wakes for my Mother's Day Brekkie! Hhehheee

Thanks Miladysa! Peter Plover IS in laid back Australia right now ;)

I agree, very good camouflage for melding into the sandstone AWildLifeGardener! I almost went blind trying to see them ;)

They are cuddly looking Melissa, but don't squeeze too hard because there aren't that many in this area :) Thankyou! I'm not sure, but Mary at PhotoBlog said it's Mother's Day over there too?

Happy Muthas Day to you too Baino ;)

No it isn't wearing a Pullover because they come to Australia because they think our Winters are warm BoiledEggInADeckchair!

Have a good day everyone! Have to sneak back to bed now ... shhhhh ...

A quick hi, happy MD. I thought this would be my bird fix for the day, but now I want to go out and see if there are any plovers back to Anchorage yet.

Thanks Ces, Happy Mother's Day to you now! *tsup*!* Ooops, I think I'm developing a cold from all the rain ;)

Thanks KJ - same to you! What's "total leisure and indulgence"? Tsup*!* You're contagious now! Hhehhehee

Great Miladysa, I'll be around to hear as soon as possible!

Hi, and thanks Steve :) There should be lots of Plovers back at Anchorage by now! Not the Double-banded ones but we have others that aren't here anymore which suggests they have migrated ;)
