White-bellied Sea-eagle Sky Watch

Trust me. The second largest bird of prey, White-bellied Sea-eagle wanted to stay as high in the sky as possible to search Sydney for lost Jack, the Red-collared Lorikeet! That's why it looks like a very small raptor...

Closer images next time and I won't be feeling so gray :) This post has been submitted to SKY WATCH FRIDAY!

I like all three of them, but I think my favorite is #3. I like his wings all spread out like that!

Good Babooshka and Luiz.Rainforest :))

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! I can see the arrowhead! Luckily they mainly feed off aquatic animals such as fish, turtles and sea snakes!

Thanks G3TFilms ;) They are a most interesting looking bird to look at when you can see it! Heehee

Thankyou Rose :)

To soar like that Teresa, would be like a dream ;)

Lovely shot-and such a considerate bird to help search for Jack....what he'd do if he found Jack, I don't want to think about.

Hey Anony, my favorite bird queen in the whole entire world (yes I mean that and yes I am sucking up). Got another new bird in the garden and I have looked through your photos but I Still don't know what it is. Can you help (again)

Size: about the size of a pigeon
Color: glossy black
Beak: pointy (like a kookaburra's is pointy) and olive green in color

Any ideas?

A sea-eagle! Glad to find your nice blog, as I love birds and Sydney.
You might want to drop by Jerusalem Hills Daily Photo today to see our brand new national bird.

HAHA, luckily White-bellied Sea-eagles don't eat as many birds or mammals as they like aquatic food, Debra Kay. Luckily we have LOTS of water around Sydney ;)

Hey Mountaingirl :) That's a difficult one, I might need more information like the shape of tail and where it was seen ie: on ground, high in tree etc. It could be a Black Butcherbird but they are more likely found further North from you. The Black Butcher has a silvery-blue coloured bill with a upper very fine hook on the end. If not, did it have bright yellow eyes like a juvenille currawong (being size of pigeon)? Maybe it was a Starling wearing its Autumn colours?

Hi Dina! Good to hear you love both birds and Sydney :) I'll check out your National Bird!

Thanks Ida :)

Interesting ... it's all true, trust me Imac ;)

Still much larger than most of my attempts at photos of birds of prey!

I love birds of prey. They are magnificent and formidable especially when carrying a prey with their talons - just a s long as it is not Jack or Snowflake.

Keep trying Caroline :)

You're right about birds of prey being magnificent if not carrying Jack or Snowflake Ces!

I'm also glad Jack made it home and thanks for hosting Skywatch Friday Tom :))

Jack DID make it home okay ForThePeople ! Thanks :)

Hheheee, the diving wasn't so easy to photograph Melissa, it was fast! YES, an actual weekend of rest apart from the large gazebo Family PARTY on Sunday! Hhahhaa :)

Thankyou Suzanne, John, Petunia, Klaus and DanielJSantos!!!

I never heard of a "sea eagle" so I google it in and what a bird.
I like to watch the birds of prey.

hi Anon,
The Sea Eagle is beautiful to watch when it hits the water to catch its lunch. I saw them in Darwin when going up the Adelaide riveron a croc cruise . they also threw food to them in the air was truly amazing to watch them ...

Hello Jeanette! I recognise your face now :) Did see this one dive to the face of the water, but my camera was a little slow ;) I've never been to Darwin, but it sure is a dream destination to see birds!!

White-bellied Sea-eagles are found in Australia which might explain why you don't know it Laughingwolf! However, they can also be found in India and South East Asia if you find yourself in those areas :))
