WHAAAAA! This actually happened to me once in a creek. Having a sleep-in; sweet dreams!
};-}
Fantastic photos....looks kind of scary!
Yikes!! What neat photos! The ducks don't seem that worried, but I would have been running ON TOP of the water to get outta there! :D
That fourth photo is so funny, it looks like the duck is trying to figure out if he can take on the eel.
I agree with Mongoose, and I have to say the ducks are way more brave than me. I know most eels don't deserve the bad wrap they get, but they're just so BIG. and SLIMY!
Eeeuuw . .they're repulsive things and they have teeth those ducks had better tuck up their tootsies!
depending on preparation, eel can be either tasty, or fatty and rancid :(
Aren't eels dangerous??? Although in one of the photos it looks like the duck is going after an eel!
HAHHAA thanks Mary :) It WAS scary when an eel swam through my legs in a creek once! Eeels are predominately carnivorous, feeding on insects, small fish and even young birds.
Hhehheee YES running on top of the water Melissa! Those eels were big ones and probably like a duckling for dessert sometimes :(
Good luck to him Mongoose! During autumn when there is increased rainfall along Australia’s east coast, mature eels migrate to the coast then swim to their spawning grounds in New Caledonia! Unless, people feed eels in a park like the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney...
BIG and SLIMY are very apt descriptions Louise!
Hhehhee, they have very short, plate-like teeth which are little threat to humans but could take a bite of duck bum, Baino!
You've tried cooking them all LaughingWolf? EWWWW...
Only dangerous to the little birds, Sharon. Hopefully the eels are in New caledonia before the spring ducklings arrive. They keep bird populations in ponds at a sustainable level :(
That's amazing - and very cool.
Ate lunch whilst watching the show, Wren ;)
Hello Anon. I had a terrible day. I felt like I was swimming with eels and water mocassins. You really are giving us quite a show with these photographs. I have eaten sea eels, the white shiny kind from the Philippines, quite tasty but we always told our Mother "We are eating a belt for lunch again?"
These eels look like the moray, scary and ugly ones.
Fantastic images Anon, even if I think of them as ugly creatures.
Hello Ces :) I had a difficult day also and today performing computer maintenance on office computers, so will disappear any minute! Those are Longfinned Eels with scientific name Anguilla reinhardtii! They periodically clear these eels from the Botanical Gardens but they jump over the walls back into the ponds soon after.
Smoked eel is good to eat.
Great pics!
Pretty sure I've eaten smoked eel before ElizT :) It couldn't have been that bad or too impressive because don't really remember ... hehhee. Thanks!
Say what?!!! JUMP?!!!
Tsup*!* Great photos, I love the last one where duckie is taking a closer look underneath *!*
HAHA, okay, slippery slide over the sea wall Ces ;) HERE is a link to our Extreme Eels!
Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! HAH, that's one VERY brave Mallard!
oooooooo, too creepy for me. Not fond of the slimy slithery creatures. The duck doesn't look happy either.
BOO Indigo-daisy! Oh. She's gone. Must have slithered away ... mwhahahahahaaa
};-}
Hot diggity! The guy in your link looks happy preparing the eel. Have you tried these eels, how do they taste?
The Texans make HOT DOGS from them Ces!?! Hhehee, yes I have tasted eel but don't remember much about it. Possibly blanked the experience from my mind ... ;) I don't like the fact eels can leave the water and wriggle across land and even straight up dam walls. Possibly up cooking pots and across resturant floors!!!
Just like the catfish. During the rain we saw them walking everywhere in the tropics. They are just like snakes!
Hhehhee Ces! Once fishing I was very upset because Grandad made me throw a HUGE Catfish back out of the tinnie. They STING!!! *Shhhhhh no mention of cats or their likes allowed* TWEET!
My daughter just saw your eel post and thinks it is so cool!
That would be "sick" Down Under Ces ;) Tell your daughter the water is VERY cool HAHA :)
Bwark*!* King Jack ... love your new hair doooooooooooos
According to the Cockies and Galahs you're like one fully sick dude ;)
BWARK! Paid a visit to Baino's today and she sent me to a HAIRDRESSER! I AM fully sick Bimbimbie! FULLY SICK!
FULLY SICK!! BWARK!!
no, but mother used to, an excellent cook she was... there are eels around here, but i've yet to fish for them
Your SICK would be TIGHT to the teenagers around here. I did not know before if Baino was a he or she. Thanks Your Majesty!
All I can say is EWWWWWW again, LaughingWolf!
You're fully sick too Ces! I wouldn't trust Jack's judgement on gender ... HAHHAA :)
Love those pics, Anon! Eels were eaten here too at the beginning of the century...(meaning xxth) But now, they have disapeared from the St-Lawrence River..... pollution.... :(
Holy cow, they are monsters! Hello again, how are you doing? Did I miss much? (Yes, yes I did)
oh slither thee backyards, eels.
(what a quack up post this is...)
That's a sad story about your eels MerlinPrincesse!
Yes you did Bird and the eels ARE monsters! Watch out! Hhehhee :)
Is that out of the Bible KJ? I wouldn't know... Are you suggesting the the ducks are quacking REALLY LOUDLY because you'll have to dive in to save them if that's true :O
