Extremely Happy!

An extra post for the day! Anonybird is extremely happy because just around the corner I have finally seen what I thought was only a mythical bird - a Royal Spoonbill! Everyone had seen them ... but me! I even went holidaying up North because G3TFilms posted an image of a Spoonbill on his blog, but I STILL didn't see one. I was laughed at because they were supposed to live right in my own backyard *sigh*.

In some photos you can see a small red mark along its black forehead and a rich yellow mark above each eye. Conspicuous flowing white head plumes in September when wearing breeding plumage; especially with the right lighting. In the meantime, go cheer Rich who is back! We are also extremely happy he still has a head to be spoon fed.

These birds grunt, howl and softly honk. They also bill snap and wing woof!

Welcome back G3TFilms :)

Oh yeah? How am I to verify that you really saw this bird and that you did not download this photos from one anonymous Australian bird expert's blog? Hmn?

Congratulations. Now that you describe what it does, that's a mighty interesting bird. I never saw a spoonbill but I have seen a lot of bills!

Hehhee, do you not recognise my unique style of photography Ces? More Spoonbills to be posted later; this was a special post for the spoon fed ;)

It's sleepy time now, night night!

Congrats on the lifer! We don't have those here in the states, but it looks much like the roseate spoonbill we do have - as if you left one out in the sun and it faded.

Hhehee, I just have to add Wren, that these birds are VERY common in Australia, apart from waterless and treeless areas :) I just happened to be blind to them! Like the thought of Spoonbills faded by the sun! We also have Yellow-billed Spoonbills which I'll photograph next! Must sleeeep.... *yawn*

Hhheee, your kitty might have thought it was dinnertime when seeing the spoon Debra Kay!

KJ, does that happen to be you again? It was very exciting, and has a bill like a spoon :) Is your nose like a spoon KJ? Heehee!!

That's right LaughingWolf! Two would be spooning HAHAHA!!! They are interesting to watch, sweeping their submerged bills back and forth in a wide arc to find food :)

They have introduced themselves to New Zealand ElizT, so you never know about seeing one! They aren't really mythical you know ;)

Hhahahaaa, at first I thought you might have been eating breakfast whilst commenting Baino :)

I will recognize your style of photography right away Anon, even your layout. You are very unique. I was just teasing you. Hey, I used a spoonbill to saute my yellow bells.

Anonymous said...

Hhehheee, you're teasing again Ces! Mmmmmmm it's time for dessert!

laughingwolf said...

Hhahaa, that's GOOFY again!

laughingwolf said...

and so? :O lol

kjpweb said...

Couldn't see then 1st time around.
They are gorgeous. Try catching them, when they are in full mating plum. Then they will look even more exciting - wearing a crown of feathers. So - there's your chore for spring! ;)
Cheers, Klaus

Goofy isn't quite as wuffy as a Wolf, LaughingWolf!

I was very excited Klaus and only yesterday arranged to do just that in Spring with a friend! There's actually quite a list for September photographing birds but it makes for a better time than now when the birds are huddled and hiding away!

laughingwolf said...

which makes wuffs all the more wunnerful, no? ;) lol

Anonymous said...

*ACHOO*! I'm allergic to LaughingWolf!

bless you, birdy! ;) lol
