Extreme Fishing

Watch carefully. First you pretend to not see the catch.

When their back is turned you carefully line them up...

Then fire when their back has turned back the other way!

Missed.

Thankyou to all Twits (in the nicest way) who voted in the Mini Poll that was found in the sidebar! Results have been added to the 'Starling was a Darling' post.

Also thankyou to Ces for awarding me a Brillante Blog Award which you'll find in the sidebar.

Thanks again Ces!

I would prefer a common carp to koi for dinner anyway…

simon said...

yes koi don't do it for me either...

Anonymous said...

Hhehee, I've never actually tried eating a Koi, Simon. You must have been HUNGRY! HAHA ;)

Woah! That are great pics!!! Wonderful! Was the Gloassy successful later on! Or was all that tactic talk just a smoke scrre for "I actually never caught a fish!"
Good job!
Cheers, Klaus

Thanks Klaus :) The Glossy Ibis was actually bored and felt the need to 'perform' for the camera. He mostly eats aquatic invertebrates and insects ;)

Anon, I am a great admirer of your photography especially at Photography Anonymous but I have to say, these photographs are by far, SUPREME and most beautiful. I am very very impressed. A lovely image capture of a very interesting bird. PURE MAGIC!!!

Muy brillante! Premio primero!Magnifico!!!

I'm blushing Ces :) Perhaps the Glossy Ibis can fly over to your place and pick off the pesky insects from your Crepe Myrtle tree ;) Hheheee! You are multi lingual!

Baino said...

Petal, I agree with Ces. All your shots are lovely but these have the WOW factor and are among the best you've ever done! Fantastic shots and right in amongst the action as usual. Most excellent!

Anonymous said...

"Petal" Baino? HAHHAHHAAA, you can only get away with that one in blog comments! Truth is I don't take compliments too well... I want a new very expensive camera too. Thanks Baino :))

Oh come on. I really did not spray those webs with insect spray. My son was with me and as male and testosterone-laden that he is, he reminds me to not overreact to animals, insects and other moving creatures especially snakes. He and his Dad just say "Let nature do its thing." There was an injured bumble bee on the deck and my first reaction was to swat it for fear of getting stung and he grabbed my hand and said "Don't! It is struggling to survive." Oooh I felt good about that because I taught him to be kind to living creatures but the older I get, the more I think of animals as mere vectors. Okay, so much for explaning my insect spray.

I did not think birds blush but I stand by my assessment. By the way, I have an encyclopedia of birds and your blog is clearly an online bird encyclopedia, just better because of your wit.

Hello Petal. Hehehehe!

He fishes as successfully as I do.

HAHAA, I understand Ces. I stand beside you in thinking cute fluffy bunny wabbits are MEAN too! We must persist in allowing the endurance of snakes, spiders and bumble bees ;) Wabbits on the otherhand... you can only get away with calling me "Petal" ONCE in the comments! };-}

HAH, fishing all has to do with location, Wren. Plus patience! A lot like photographing birds ... ;)

Louise said...

REALLY great pictures, but the commentary is hilarious and appropriate. I'm with Wren!

Anonymous said...

Hello and thankyou Louise :) Hmmm, I should add the Glossy Ibis successfully fishes for frogs, snails, spiders and aquatic insects. You could join Wren fishing in swamp mud and lake margins! I'll stick to picking beetles and grasshoppers off the plants with Ces... ;)

Ces Adorio said...

The water is so crystal clear it almost makes the fish look like it is flying!

Anonymous said...

True Ces! I lightened the water up so we could see the glowing fish ;) Glossies prefer brackish or occasionally saline wetlands, mangroves and mudflats. They like well-vegetated areas where the food lives!

Congratulations, anonymous, for the brilliant award!
This Ibis photos are really stunning. I admire your patience and your humour!
For me, your blog is just as good as COFFEE in the morning! ;)

Anonymous said...

Thankyou Maria! Good morning and enjoy :) I'm making a hot chocolate now...

Maria said...

Hot chocolate is also what we need here in Austria. Now it is extremely cold here, only about 14°C. Brrrrr!
Enjoy your chocolate!

Anonymous said...

It's 14°C here right now Maria! Plus descending because dark soon. Your summer isn't that warm :O I'll make another cuppa...

Stellar shots as always Anon!

Dang! I thought the bird was fishing by an aquarium. Hahaha!

laughingwolf said...

at least ye dinna use the pom word, 'twats' :O

funny pictorial tale, birdy... and grats on the award! :)

Melissa said...

Anon, it would be a dream to spend the day with you watching you get these photos and seeing the birds and beasts myself! These are fabulous! Your award from Ces is *well* deserved!! :)

Anonymous said...

HAH, thanks Lavender. The sky shots are today!

Aren't aquariums supposed to protect fish and not feed them to the birds Ces? Hhehee

LaughingWolf, Thankyou I think. I'm not sure what "twats" means to the poms but in Australia it's not a family rated word! Or did you mean 'porn word'!?!

Melissa, the reality isn't so dream-like HAHA! I usually only spend an hour at a time photographing, three hours maximum ;) Thankyou :)

tsduff said...

What a cool shot... the fish looks as though he is floating in the air! I think he was far too big a mouthful for birdy though LOL! Loved the pictures.

laughingwolf said...

canucks use it the same as aussies, birdy... i was told the poms have an entirely different definition....

Anonymous said...

Hhehee, real choking material TsDuff! Thankyou :)

I don't know what that is LaughingWolf or what you are saying. Google will bring lots of hits looking for the French Canadian or Australian version though ...

laughingwolf said...

no doubt, birdy... :O lol

ask a pom?

Mary said...

Anonymous said...

OHHHH you mean a DRONGO, LaughingWolf! But it isn't a Drongo but a Glossy Ibis!

HAH, thankyou Mary :)
