Skywatching Whilst Hanging with Bats

It was actually a dare for me to hang out with...

... bloodsuckers!

Can't climb much further away from them than this.

Now how to get down?

That’s right, the Australian White Ibis has wings! He must have forgotten with fear… ;) Those aren’t vampire bats either; they’re native Greyheaded Flying Foxes. This post has been submitted to SKY WATCH FRIDAY!

Once upon a time there was this great and fantastic group of people who blogged and photographed … with a click, click here, a snap, snap there, all of them had a week to look upon the sky … day and night, by dusk or dawn, sunrise or sunset … and always there where great and fantastic photos to be seen when SKY WATCH was opened …

I am one of those proud sky watchers and I really enjoy each and every one of the photos you show us. I really think you are a first class sky watcher!

Great photos of the sky and birds for sky watch friday. Thank you for adding to the party with your view of the horizon. Your nature photos are really very lovely.

if there is an international bird contest you should win it hands down. in fact, i've already voted for you.

:)

Tree-mendous post great photos.

You will be amazed at my SW.

Good Friday morning Quinttarantino! Again I'm not too happy about your mass cut and pasting onto everyone's post. Did you see the bird and bats?

Hello Maple, thankyou! That's one bird versus lots of bats *giggle*

KJ, I AM blushing!!! Not that you can see that in a mirror because almost blue with COLD! Spooky? BOO!!

Hehheee, tree-mendous indeed Imac :) Thanks!

Why Dear Anon/ Are you not a first class sky watcher? Hehe! A medal for the bird! Did you watch it get down or get sucked?

Maria said...

Oh my God! In Austria we have these bats in the Zoo!
;) Just kiddin'

Anonymous said...

HAHA, Good Morning girls, you both make me laugh ... COFFEE ALL OVER MY KEYBOARD! Heehee

Ces, I couldn't bare to watch ;)

Maria, you can have the ones in our front yard for your zoo - they colour everything purple from eating fruits - even the car! Only kiddin' ;) They still colour everything!

lol

goofy bird, forgetting it can fly :P lol

How completely cool to see those flying foxes! They are an exotic animal in these parts.. as in, only in the zoo! I love the Ibis.

Anonymous said...

Very cool - I love bats. I've seen the flying foxes in zoos, but never in the wild. Just the teensiest bit jealous.

This is a really cool post and great skywatch.

Anonymous said...

HAHHAA, you sound like Goofy, LaughingWolf with all your LOLing :))

Hello Tsduff :) I love the Ibis also :))

Hhheee, NOTHING to be jealous about Wren! Those flying foxes destroy a lot of vegetation in the Royal Botanical Gardens (where this tree is) and in many other places too. Our front yard tree is stripped of Lilypily fruits each year! There is a little problem with their numbers being too high... Thankyou!!

What batty pictures they are.

Definitely a sky watch post. Very blue, I like that very much.

Ces Adorio said...

I know you could not bear to watch but did it get away safely? This is so cool.

Mad birdlady. I'm supposed to me the mad birdlady but i think it's you. Fabulous shots. Quin is being naughty with his commenst recently and his not the only one.

Ces Adorio said...

I really like your skywatch posts. This is absolutely incredible. The sky offers us a magnificent chance to ponder on the earth's glory. Each cloud formation is in itself a wonder, consdering it is composed of gas, just like the gas I am spewing now :-)

Anonymous said...

VERY batty pictures Captain Modroom9 ;)

I wish there was more blue Ewok1993, but the winter wind keeps blowing the clouds in the way :)

The bats have no interest in the Ibis Ces. You can sleep well now!!!

HAHHAHAA!!! I AM the Australian Mad Birdlady, Babooshka :) You can still be the Mad English Birdlady! Hhehee, yes I know, I might start deleting any cut and paste comments as of next week, maybe even not visit the culprits this week. This week is a WARNING!

CES! This is a WARNING! Next week you will be deleted - ZILCH visits from me and I'll peck your eyes out the week after if this cut and paste behaviour continues! Ooops, I've visited you already. PLEASE don't drop GAS, you will KILL the birds!

Anonymous said...

You are too cheeky today Ces - I like that! Hhehheeee :)

Ces Adorio said...

Ooh ooh. What a coincidence. I got an email today that used your "Cheek(y) word and KJ's "Crap" word. It was about friendship. Wow I like these coincidences. Will you at least visit my Skywatch post about the rain? I had to post it today because I am oncall until 8:00AM tomorrow. Unless of course you think I shoulkd cut and paste my own comment :-( That would make me look like a loser Boo hoo hoo :-(

Bimbimbie said...

Tsup*!* I love your touch of night and day.

I thought the bats would camp within foliage and not be out in the open of a dead tree. I'm thinking in terms of the sun and wind drying out their wings and such. Are they close to where you live? ... you would have to make sure they aren't cuddling King Jack within their black robes should he ever dare to take another venture skywards Tsup*!*

SandyCarlson said...

Wow! These are as impressive as ever.

Lara said...

they are the best sky watchers :)

Anonymous said...

*sigh*
Why didn't you just ask Ces? Just HOW can you ever appear to be a loser Cheeky? HEEHEE! Don't work too hard ... ;)

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! The bats hang wherever they can and where the juiciest fruits hang; these ones are in the Botanical Gardens but we also have them in our suburb and in our garden! Luckily they only raid the lillypilly tree out the front once a year ;) Jack is safe inside at night! Tsup*!*

Hello SandyCarlson. I'm pleased you're impressed :)

Bats and birds; night and day Skywatchers! You're right Lara :)

Suzanne said...

I love how you have managed to capture the birds in those tree. Wonderful photos. Happy SWF.

Mosura said...

The Ibis would have to be a bit batty to take a dare like that :-)

Tom said...

Are these fruit Bats?
Jane

Unfortunately Tom is on bed rest today and for the first time you are stuck with me. I have my orders to visit as many as I can, and make sure the links are working and everyone is being good. I am sure you all are being good.
Tom and I thank you for being here on Sky Watch this week. I am sure that as soon as Tom's heart beat settles down he will be back here and visiting.

JANE

Anonymous said...

Hhehee, those are bats Suzanne, but there is an Australian White Ibis there. It's the big white one :)

That's right, a batty Ibis Alan! Perhaps the bats think they're birds? ;)

These are Greyheaded Flying Foxes or sometimes called Fruit Bats Jane :) I was wondering why people were calling 'Tom' Jane! I'm always good ;) My very best wishes towards Tom's recovery and pleased I have one of the blogs you could visit. Thankyou!

Have I got a reputation for being overly chic yet? I'm always late. Isn't it cool to arrive late at parties? I live in the same city but I'm always late!

I love the bats, we've got a few that fly in at night and keep me awake with their squeaking and scrapping but none stay for the daylight so I can't photograph them. Ugh, smelly ibis . .I saw a flock of black ones the other day . . never seen them before.

Anonymous said...

You ARE indeed chic Baino!!! I'm not too keen when they scratch at night on the bedroom window - it sounds like they're trying to scratch in and steal from our fruit bowl! Not that we keep fruit in the bedroom hehee! The smelly Ibis is just for you ;) That must have been Glossy Ibis you saw fly past; most breed in Murrumbidgee-Murray Valley. They are RARE!

laughingwolf said...

as a kid, i DID learn that laugh, birdy... seldom do it anymore, but can, if the price is right! :O lol

What an Australian-y looking banyan-y tree!

PS what on earth a banyan tree is, I've no idea. I just think it's some kinda sacred tree... like that one apears to be... all gnarled and wrinkled in such an Aussietastical way..!!

Anonymous said...

Aren't we lucky hearing you be Goofy for free, LaughingWolf!

FLY Luiz Ramos :)

The bats most certainly like the tree ForThePeople, they have stripped the foliage from the top half! Have a good weekend, we have the Pope!

Thanks TommyV and JeFf&NoVa!

Hhehheee, they are real Rose!

Fortunately birds have their ways and wings Lasse!!

Gledwood, I think you're right, and that's a Bayan Fig Tree! Well spotted, the bats must have spotted the figs like you ;)
