Anon says she learnt kicking first but I have to learn flicking like what her fingers do!
I hold onto the side all by myself with my tail in the water.
Then flick!
This is FUN!

The rest of the pool shots will be posted for the 'Pool Party' held here just after Christmas :)
what sort of camera do you use Anon?
As for Whipbirds they are just SO evasive. Like quail! The one I have heard lies in a small pocket of bamboo... hey presto by accident there he was!
I use a Canon Powershot S3IS, Simon. It was bought for son's trip to Japan - easy to use and won't break if dropped! I also like the zoom capacities and it has been bashed a few times bushwalking but survived :) WOW I have heard Whipbirds a hundred times but haven't seen them (not since a child) UNLESS one of the birds I photographed was one - still haven't had time to revise those photographs. Sunday's Whipbird did lead me into a possum's nest though ;)
The pool must make a change from eating worms all day. It does for me.
modroom's comment made me fall off my chair in uncontrollable laughter...
:)
"Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, think I'll go eat worms!" Is that your favourite song Modroom?
Oh dear KJ, hope it wasn't a belly flop! Hehhehee
What wonderful Mini posts.
I just love the video of Mini eating worms.
I can't wait to see the next post about what happens next in Mini's life.
Pleased you like Sharon! Mini Minor does have a fan club going :) The weather isn't looking great but posts about her release should be as early as Sunday or Monday:)
Im back to gush at the little bub some more... :)
You are more than welcome to gush Lavender, we still do it daily :)
I love the new trick, tail flick. She seems to be learning really quickly and certainly looks very healthy now. I know you're probably anxious to release her to her new slaves, but you'll be a little sad too.
i can't believe you'll be releasing her, anon. you're that confident she'll be guided by other birds, huh?
what a story. what a series. yay!
Canon Powershot? Wow . . and there was I prepared to pay over $1000 for a Digital SLR. Sorry to detract from her royal cuteness but I'm in the process of buying a decent flickbox and doing a bit of research. If you use a telephoto, what sort?
How cool. I wonder if Rocky would like a bath (Our cockateil). Our birdbath outside is frozen entirely solid.
I'm mostly anxious to release her to lessen the degree of sadness which will grow with each day she’s here Red Mojo! The day is today and it's wet outside but less windy then yesterday - and warmer.
She must be released KJ! Jack is only caged because his kind don’t live in this area of Australia and wouldn't find a mate etc. He's also in want of a human pat all the time which is the danger with Mini Minor staying much longer. YES I am confident she will be more than fine!
Buy a Digital SLR if you want one Baino, but the Powershot a very well-executed megazoom camera. I find the 12x zoom more than adequate. You can add the tele-converter tc-dc58b which gives another 1.5x equivalent to over 600m. Depends on what you want the camera for ... exhibiting, printing posters, etc.
Give Rocky a bath Mary Stebbins Taitt!!! In the kitchen sink with warm water and have a warm hair dryer to dry :)
I love bath time with my kids! Looks like baby minor is just like them splashing away and getting all cute with the soaked feathers! :)
She does enjoy herself, Melissa! Birds tend to become excited in the rain, so having a bath must be similar fun :)
