Meet Mini Minor! You might remember her Evil Cousin Linda Blair! However, Mini is even MORE evil because she is an introduced species named a Common Myna or Indian Myna. In this photograph, she isn't old enough to perch yet!
Mini Minor is fed porridge with a syringe.
She also eats worms with tweezers. See she can perch now!
During the day she lives in Jack's indoor night cage, but sleeps in a cupboard when Jack arrives inside from his Castle at night. They are natural enemies!
She needs LOTS of attention, every hour eating ten milliliters worth of porridge AND fifty worms. In the wild, the parents would daily make 400 runs to fetch food! Mini Minor also needs sunshine and exercise. She spends time outside but doesn't yell loud enough when her kind fly past! Once she can fly to a lower branch, she will be adopted by a Common Myna Family. Above is a movie of the first time my Son fed Mini Minor. - they are now both a lot more accomplished at feeding time :)

Couldn't leave her to be run over, even if the Devil Herself!
What a life saver you are!
Good feeding and filming too!
I knew it! Thank you for saving her littleness. She is adorable. You've done a wonderful job, and a wonderful thing! :)
boy red mojo knew it alright! anon, this is precious post # 2 for the day. you are my heroine until further notice.
this is just GREAT! I can see that the feeding is really helping.
iu am not a lover of the minor AT ALL. but also it did not ask to be one and so you are doing areally wonderfull thing ANON! :O)
Hhehhee, slave to the devil Modroom! Yes, a good feeding is what she wants ALL THE TIME!
She is growing so fast Red Mojo! What's a couple of weeks without time or sleep ... *yawn*
OH thanks KJ! I've just tied a poopy towel around my neck for growth of a bird on shoulder. Do you think that would look any good as a Comic Heroine?
Yes, she was very hungry and thirsty when we found her, Simon. I KNOW she is the most disliked bird EVER!!!! However, I've already learnt about a few things they do in regards to mannerisms ... and have a daily growing understanding of her kind :)
yes! they do have an interesting family structure too... do you think she will ever meet Morris? ahahhahaha!
Hmmm Simon, all I know is large groups gather in communal roosts and they mate for life. At the same time as not wanting to encourage Myna reproduction, I do hope Mini meets Morris! Hhehehheheee! Have to find suitable Adoptive Parents first ...
Hello Mini! What a cutie! The kids and I loved the video -- they couldn't get over the amount of worms the little guy eats in a day. Personally, I love the wild hairdo! :) I'll look forward to all the posts on his growth and progress.
Aww you're a softie! That's one of the environmentalist's dilemmas whether to hand rear or let nature take its course. I hate rabbits for instance but couldn't run over one even though they're in plague proportions and undermining my shed. It's the 'baby' thing methinks. Kudos for hourly feeding tho!
Oh My Gosh!! Mini Minor has stolen my heart! I haven't had a baby at home since the Wildlife Museum days (species manager for all the corvids and ALL THEIR BABIES :) ), but your pics brought back the vivid memories of endless feedings! What a cute cute baby!
Her impossibly wide mouth just cracks me up. Oh, I miss the babies!!!!
Hhehheee, she eats much larger sized worms now Melissa! She has also lost the 'old man' fluff from the top of her head :)
Hi Baino! You made the flight home again :) It was the baby thing, an adult would have been able to fly to a safer place than on a carpark. The little one was in a dead end ... to be squashed within the hour.
Hhehehheeee, feedings aren't as endless as they used to be TsDuff. She might even be ready to discover the world beyond our backyard this weekend! HAHA, he rubber lips aren't as rubbery any more either either ;)
Group behavior:- the thing that gets me with the Minors ( including soldier birds) is they way they post sentries and gang up on other birds and threats.. its truly amazing.
I do not encourage the Indian minors into our yard and the other birds really go for them eg butcher birds..
but Mini is SO cool!
Mini is cool Simon! Luckily the Magpie's boundary stops at our back fence, so the Mynas stay on the other side and NOT in our garden! Once Mini is adopted I will know she is close by ... :)
