Braised Potted is generally aggressive and antisocial, best housed in pairs unless in a very large area.
Today the duck that we are able to buy in Australia is very different than what it used to be even 10 years ago. Braised Potted Duck is very popular to rid from the wild and order in a restaurant.
Leaving duck as is, the body up tails as the temperature and length of cooking time greatens. The natural buoyancy is maintained with legs intact which work as ‘rudders’ when water boils. Feathers even turn a hot orange to indicate when well done.
This duck isn’t in a pond but a large cooking pot in the kitchen of a local restaurant!
A pinch and a punch, I’ll be back after lunch – out the door until later :)
ahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahah- clunk.....!!!!
Mmmm, duck! We had some delicious Peking duck in Beijing.
"High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call --
We are down a-dabbling
Up tails all!"
Great shots, Anon! A friend of mine has a decoy of a duck diving ... it kind of looks like a big tooth, but it's actually a replica of the duck's "tootie" up out of the water. :)
wha...?
whhhhhhhaaaat? no eating ducks!
it could be the 11th commandment.
! and xo!
That restaurant has got a lot of pot. I dread to think what the Braised Potted Kangaroo looks like :o
Good grief woman - a corpse on your blog?!!!
Howling Cassocks! Make sure poor Jack doesn't see this.
I need a cup of tea...
I'll have mine in Mu Shu Pancakes from BBQ King in ChinaTown, ta!
Tease!
What a harlot showing us all her goods!
Tell me where I can buy a pot like that? I need it for boiling lobster, crayfish and shrimp!
I love the color of the feathers. I can make an orange hat from a couple of those ducks. Quack!
By the way, I would be antisocial too if my kind always ended up in a boiling pot!!!
Ooops Simon's head fell off!
Hhheeeee, I love the way you describe 'bottoms' as "tooties"!
"We like to be
Heads down, tails up,
Dabbling free!"
Duckie Melissa! Haahaa.
Wha .... Red Mojo? You have to face gruesome facts some time ...
It's my blog KJ! There has to be a post like this, why not now? Do you always close your eyes when kissing and hugging like that?
I edited and cropped the image tightly Captain Modroom9; thought it would be a bit much seeing the fat sticking to the pot's sides :O Kangaroo looks the same - just skinned first!
I AM all woman Miladysa, that's why we are in the kitchen today! It was Jack's idea! HAHA ;)
WOW, how did you know we were in China Town G3T!?! You must eat there often - and Mu Shu Pancakes!
Go eat something ElizT! *sigh*
She's a little hottie that one Princess Pepper Cloud :)
China Town Ces! We also have large boilers that can fit a whole emu into it, but they are mostly in the country. The feathers aren't much good but for keeping the juices in Ces ... unless you like crispy feathers sprinkled as a spice? They were antisocial before ending up in pots ... between their own kind! *sigh*
be sure to remove the oil glands first!! :o)
I wasn't planning on trying to cook it myself Simon but you're right! The chef said they have anhydrotetrodotoxin 4-epitetrodotoxin produced within the oil glands which should be removed first :)
No fooling!
Aussies are secretly proud of their dangerous wildlife and eating habits Caroline!
At first I thought the last picture was a two headed duck. I'm really off my game today.
Look at those meaty little thighs just begging to be confit with a sour cherry sauce!
You're in China Town? *Leans out office window and waves, over-balances, falls seven stories before being kindly held aloft by large flock of rat like pigeons, placed gently on the ground. Goes inside and scrubs himself for three days until he no longer smells like a city squab*
Well, that's the last time I'm friendly to someone in Chinatown.
It must be the cousin of drop bears... :)
That's a very surprised look on the last duck's face Debra Kay!
If it was a Drake begging, it would have its tongue hanging out Baino :O
Heehee, I was only dining there G3T and was almost one of those rat like pigeons!!! Now you know what's REALLY in those pancakes!
A duck and bear related MerlinPrincesse? NAAAAHHHHHHHH - It was better at this time LAST YEAR!
;)
Aha Anatidae. It has been observed by empirical observation that braised ducks and potted ducks forage deep underwater. To be able to see above the water whilst submerged, the diving ducks have a special eye.
Adult ducks are fast fliers, but may be caught on the water by large aquatic chefs. In flight, ducks are safe from all but a few predators such as aeroplanes and rockets, which regularly use their speed and strength to catch ducks.
I do so love your Braised Potted Anatidae.
That must be their 'special eye' we can see in the photographs Professor Fufu-u!!!
I believe that is the eye indeed. It follows you wherever you go.
Stop watching the pot boil then Professor Fufu-u are circling like a cat!
i am proud to admit i don't understand much of anything in this post, including where anon was standing when she took these shots...
i love moo-shi anything, but i must duck in certain circumstances.
i have lost some of my innocence, and even melissa is gloating about eating a sweet little duck. what is the world coming to? miladysa and i could probably figure it out over tea...
last(ly), i close my eyes sometimes and sometimes not.. :)
I'm standing in a China Town kitchen looking over a cooking pot KJ. *sigh* That must be Mooshi-Shu you're talking about because say "Hello", then duck away! It's good you mostly closed your eyes under this post KJ or you would have lost ALL your innocence! Heehee
i have never seen a pot and water in pot look like this, and i know my pots--i pwned a restaurant for FIVE MONTHS afterall!! since when does a pot of water have ripples?
inquiring minds want to know.
muaw!
The 'ripples' in a pot look like that when stirring with a wooden spoon KJ! But only on April Fools Day .... hehehheheee
OH MY GOD! I MISSED THE ENTIRE FACT OF APRIL FOOL'S DAY.
I BELIEVED ALL THIS.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID.
THAT ANON IS TOO DAMN CLEVER.
:)
HAAHAAA KJ!!!
APRIL FOOL!

Gotta have me summa dat duckbutt. Braised, Broiled, or Fried. It's a good day!
