Nest Rest

Nesting in the middle of a lagoon ensures safety from predators! Fuzzy images because taken from a great distance. The nest has already ermmmmm floated away ...

Hiccuping Hollycocks! Well I never!

Never seen a nest on water before - you learn something new every day.

As usual ruddy marvellous Anon - thank you :-D

Don't you mean "Hollyhocks" Miladysa - so much nicer to hiccup flowers :) No ruddy worries posting but the Purple Swamphens are lucky they could swim!

I saw a bird float away in a swamp once... last time I get involved with a Sicilian family.

Great shots once again. Those digital zooms are annoying though aren't they!

You must have forgotten to tie a rock to your bird G3T Films! I love my digital zoom, but after a certain distance the images go grainy which is 'fuzzy' in blogland. Could however invest in another extra super duper zoom camera, but I'm sure my blog visitors aren't too annoyed by fuzzy images - or are they!?! Heehee

How cool! Smart birds! I saw a mourning dove in our back yard yesterday picking up scraps for a nest. When I cut Eli's hair, I put the long bits outside. One spring I got all excited because I saw a little bird with a huge crest ... I grabbed my bins ... it was a titmouse with a big beak-full of Eli's hair!

HAHA! We also leave our hair cuttings for the birds Melissa; isn't it wonderful how humans CAN be of help in a safe way sometimes :) Unfortunately, these Swamphen's predators were mostly cars and dogs. The nest also sank and didn't float away because the lagoon received a flooding!

I think you do a great job with your present camera!
Building the nest on the water is ingenious, then if the water level rises, your eggs won't be underwater. That happens around here a lot.

It IS a most excellent camera Red Mojo ;) Until the drought broke recently, rain was a rarity over the past few years and don't think the Swamphens saw a sudden flooding arriving! Their chicks might have already hatched though and they are all good waders!

*blush* Yes, Hocks NOT male birds *cough* Thank you Anon.

I hope the swamp chicks are safe.

Slip of the tongue Miladysa - especially when hiccupping or coughing :O

It looks like an elaborate swimming hat someone was wearing, my Great Aunt had one like that.

My Nan had one like that also Captain Modroom9! You must need one of those rubbery elaborate scalp protectors for when you fall overboard!

Nests are built primarily by birds, but also by mammals, fish, insects, elephants and reptiles. They may have some or all of the following zones: attachment; outer decorative layer; structural layer; lining, and chandeliers.

Some birds will build nests in trees, some (such as vultures, eagles, and many seabirds like Kittiwakes) will build them on tramps, and others nest on the ground or even in the water when a duck is confused.

The photos are fuzzy, maybe they're penguins.

Thankyou Professor Fufu-u always provide us with extra information that won't be found elsewhere or anywhere else :) Not even on a tramp or in an elephant's nest! Heehee They are NOT penguins or confused ducks but Swamphens thinking they are Lagoonhens 8P

Ha! No :P I personally think your shots are great.

I was more lamenting my own digital camera and it's poor digital zoom. But I only notice the difference because most of the time I use my professional digital film camera. It's much more versatile but not practical for taking stills.

I think that Prof. Fufu-u left out the bit where nests also make for wonderful autumn designer hair-dos. But maybe he was just trying to keep that little fashion tip for his own use.

Thank you G3T Films, I was just tricking you into saying that :) Your professional digital film camera would take much better films than my still shot camera with movie-making function! I think you're right about Professor Fufu-u, he is displaying a fashion headpiece suited to a lagoon bath on his blog right now!

I too built a nest when I was expecting. I certainly cleaned the house and readied the nursery.

By the way, I do not take kindly to "some" of your blogger "friends" no matter how pretty and good-looking they are, distorting my comment by interchanging letters in my words. I certainly could not see and thought that the "d' was a "p" so I thought the word was "parting" and referred to the bird spreading its wings. I certainly would not dare be rude on this blog, nor contribute to the bird droppings. :-)

OHHHHH, you were talking about a pee word Ces! Now you are talking about "parting" and "spreading". I don't know how some of my blogger FRIENDS (haahaa) could have made such a terrible mistake with interpreting your misreading. I apologise from all those who are pretty and good looking ;)

I always wanted a home on a house boat or barge. In fact, I'm just a pontoon away from one now (I have a travel trailer, and if pulling it doesn't work, afloating we will go).

No hard feelings and all is well with the pretty and pretty good looking.

I think your zoom is pretty good, Anon. You've taken a pic of my hair this morning then photoshopped it into a nest... !?

Baino said...

I still maintain these birds are a beer short of a six pack. I'm not surprised they fall victim to cars, they start to cross the road, hang in the middle, go back the way they came , wait for a car then do a bolt all the way across the road. Squish! Much safer playing in the water on an upturned hat!

Anonymous said...

Ohhhh, I'll be having a holiday in a few weeks time where there's a house boat Debra Kay, but it's for locking the kids into it Hheehee. We call "travel trailers" caravans, does yours look like one of the ones in THIS post?

My blogger friends are pretty and very good looking Ces :)

Zoomed all the way to Canada MerlinPrincesse to photograph your nest! Hhehehhheee

The Purple Swamphens aren't bright at all Baino, but the cars weren't supposed to be in their environment when they moved in. They are supposed to be squished by foxes instead!

i wish ces would use the "p" word more often with me instead of the "f" word. btw,i am certainly pretty and good looking and i like parts and spreads.

(what??!)

HAHHAHAAA I know KJ! I think Ces using the "f" word is a lot less confusing!?!
