Limpet Enjoyment

First you find the perfect shell. Limpets of the Cellana genus!

Tilt head to separate from surface.

Turn upside.

Enjoy.

*burp*

Feeling good.

Then repeat.

Haven't personally tried that with Limpets, but once camping when a kid, Dad forgot the food. Luckily the ocean was close by and we ended eating boiled periwinkles for dinner, breakfast and lunch. No need to have knives or beaks either to prise them off the rocks. HAHAA!

Who got knives and beaks as prizes and what for?

PRISE egghead! You don't need a Sooty Oystercatcher's beak to force, wrench or lever a periwinkle off a rock. *sigh*

Tsup*!*Love the colour co-ordinated eye and beak. Wouldn't a shorter beak have been more practical though? Tsup*!*

Suddenly I'm craving shell fish! Great series of shots, Anon ... (burp) :)

Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! I can only guess his longer beak saves his face from the disgrace of receiving a potential rock rash. Although, a rash could also tie in with his eye and beak colour! :O

Thanks for leaving a comment Onedia :)

It must be close to dinnertime there Melissa :) Thankyou! *burp!*

yes- I think its a lot like me when i used to be allowed to eat oysters! ahahahahah! ;o)

Tsup*!* Yes rock rash would be going overboard a little. I was just thinking about it's knees. Poor thing all that bending seems to have pushed them out to the other side of its legs Tsup*!*

Oh dear. I do hope dear sweet Ces yesterday hadn't contributed to your not speaking your true mind G3TFilms! There's exploded head all over the place - filthy! Guess we'll never know now. Heehee.

Hmmmm, lower maintenance if you eat off the rocks and don't need to shop or plough Debra Kay ;)

Why has the thought of shellfish made Simon go all 'funny' ... :O

Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! Hhahhahhaa, the poor Sooty has backwards knees riddled with arthritis! The chilly sea breeze doesn't help but if his legs were shorter, he'd drown when wading!

I've seen that bird in The Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' film, except it was blue and ate a dynosaur.

I'd be careful if I were you SpaceUnit4+2, you look like you've just crawled out from under a rock!

I have.

Ooops, careful still or you'll lose that shell ;)

RED MOJO said...

That's interesting, how the bird gets his oysters. Thanks for the step by step photos, very cool!

Thankfully, it was a metaphoric head explosion.

Now if only he would give the Limpet to me and I'll put it on the end of a hook and catch a real meal.

merlinprincesse said...

Did he really burped? *will not show it to Gene...She's at that age when burping is sooooooooo funny!!!*

Anonymous said...

Thanks Red Mojo :) Sooty Oystercatchers also like step by step because waders!

Phew G3TFilms! We're starting to get our fishing gear together for going away and hope I don't look too much like a floating bag or the hungry marine birds might think I'm a tasty jellyfish!

I can't be a hundred percent sure MerlinPrincesse, due to the roar of the great ocean!

Ces Adorio said...

I thought all you had to do was pry them open with an oyster cracker. I doubt if g3T is reserved because of what I said. It's the other way around.

Anonymous said...

The Sooty Oystercatcher IS an oyster cracker, Ces :) Please don't feel reserved, we're all twits here! };-}

merlinprincesse said...

So this is probably the ocean who burped...

Heh heh, very witty commentary. I laughed out loud! Thanks for that ; )

Anonymous said...

I thought that shellfish were used to keep away limpets.

Anonymous said...

No MerlinPrincesse. *sigh*

A pleasure AKiteRises, the comments are even funnier :)

Those are Timpets Perriette, the cousins of Tootles!

Love the oyster catcher. In Iceland I saw many many of them. Boy were they noisy things!

Anonymous said...

HAHA, he's the only all black shorebird in Australia TsDuff :) Our Sooties make a sound like "kervee-kervee-kervee"!

Steve said...

I have to think about that: only black shore birds in Australia.

What about those penguins, but then they weren't out on their own?

Do black swans count when they are near the shore? (Only, when they are paying for lunch, yeah, thought I'd better preempt you on that one as soon as I finished the sentence. This blog is bad from my punny bone.)

Hmmm, so what black shorebirds do we have in Alaska besides oyster catchers? Never even thought about it like that. Puffins. Or don't you count them as shorebirds? Since they really are on the rocks.

Anonymous said...

Heehee, hello Steve :) Shore birds or 'waders' are commonly found on coastal shores including beaches, rocky shores, mudflats, tidal wetlands and lagoons. Black Swans are waterbirds and not waders. The Little Penguins are mostly blue!

The only 'puffins' we have Down Under are Shearwaters which are mostly brown with white but not all black ;)

I could not find the shell at first.

I feel sorry for the limpet :-[

Oh dear. There are plenty of limpets where they came from Miladysa ...
