Drawing Near

Can you spot the bird?

When I finally get down there, the White-faced Heron decides to head seaward. I must look scary!

Gives an idea about the length of zoom. The first was still cropped and I wasn't flying above :)

Hello Aunty Rita, I didn't know you lost me :) I really wasn't flying and not really a bird of prey even if it looks like it. Now trying to find the moustache! Heehee PS: You are a very good bird spotter!!!

Yes, I saw it first off, but had to look a bit. What a beauty. Looks like the end of summer. Are you near the ocean where you live? Sigh. Lucky you.

A lot of my birds are seen at that distance TsDuff, and because of water and sun often don't know what I've photographed until it's on the computer! It is quite blinding living close to the ocean :)

It seems very pre-historic, whenever that was. The textures are great and the birds are'nt bad either.

Wow, your page took forever to load. I can't scroll down for 5 minutes after I get there. So I found the bird in the first photo, natch.

Those marvellous Aussie colours!

Australia is ancient Captain Modroom9! Sandstone can reveal many colours, especially when wet :)

Ooops, you caught my blog when editing photo archive Red Mojo. At least there was plenty of time for you to see the Heron :/

Now you mention it ElizT, I have an Aboriginal Painting that closely resembles that top photograph in shapes and colour!

yes I could see the bird! White faced heron!!!
would it be the one that nests in our tree??????

:o)

Did the Heron's face go white when he saw you too Simon!?! In that case it just might be the one that nests in your tree ... ;)

I saw the first shot, squinted at it, spotted it, then saw the second shot and thought ... HERON. :) Gorgeous photos, Anon! They're such awesome birds and the sandstone is very cool with all it's shades. I saw a great blue heron yesterday not far from the road fishing in a pond. Gorgeous. This time of year I'm a hazard on the road. :)

I would not have spotted it in the first photograph apart from you letting us know one was there and then I was challenged to find it
:-D

When I recognised a Heron I though "Wait until Melissa sees this" but she beat me to it! lol

Wonderful, wonderful photographs!

Thank you :-D

There are birds in Mars? :-) (That is, except for the last photo.

I've seen a couple of these on the dam down the road. Although maybe they're a freshwater variety. My neighbour breeds Koi Carp and the herons are persistent in breaking the netting over his breeding pond. Yum!

They are amazingly graceful in flight too, tucking up that long neck and spreading those great wings.

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Yes, my landlubbing eyes found it too. You had a great week, especially loved the spectators watching that sunbathing joker ... "look at him, look at him" I hear them call *!* lol

Maybe he was just camera shy! And no I looked at the wrong bit on the first photo, but the second one cleared it up for me :-)

Hhahhaaa, you are becoming a very good bird watcher KJ :)

I was waiting for that to happen to you Melissa! It was the same taking these photographs .... took a few shots to figure what type of bird it was. When I see Herons I think of your tattoo now! Hhahhaaa

If the bird didn't move, I wouldn't have spotted it either Miladysa! However, you can see it was busy moving about :) When I recognise Herons I think of a particular part of Melissa now Hhehheheee :)

Our beaches must look different from the ones you know Ces! This is just around the corner from the scene in the photographs on my PhotoBlog blog :)

Baino, hanging fishing line across your neighbour's pond should alter the Herons from thinking your neighbour is farming carp for them! They ARE beautiful birds especially in flight :)

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! You have well practised landlubbing eyes Hhehhee. It has been a big week! The turtles must be exhausted by now :)

He didn't even know I was there Mountaingirl! Which is a good tip to try to do when photographing birds and wanting to capture their natural behaviour without human intervention ;)
