Amazing to watch. A closer look.

The Great Cormorants don't want a closer look ... Note the breeding colours of white chin and thigh patches. The bare yellow facial skin and throat patch is always there.

How do you know?

If the Ravens were any closer, they would be closer to the Great Cormorant's eggs Mr Pigeon! How are YOU feeling being closer? OH ... s**ting yourself? Hehhehhe

What? Are you saying these Cormorants wear make up when they breed... reminds me of a few girls I know.

Not sure I want a closer look at those Ravens though... not unless my hypnotic mind power kicks in and they become my black feathered minions of the air.

Hhehee, compulsory makeup but more like how human's blush GT3Films :) The sound of the scene was very dramatic, like Hitchcock's 'Birds' but with spookier crow resonance! Unfortunately I wouldn’t have had the images if filmed instead.

Those are great shots - I've never seen the cormorants nesting in trees. I bet it was a great big hullabaloo!

Thanks TsDuff :) A helluvahullabaloo!

I used to think I made a few girls blush too... then I realised it was the rush of blood to the head right before they beat me senseless. I now wear a helmet!

I don't think crows sound that spooky... um, more like they're, um... how to put it... um, in the middle of a big... *blush* um, 'O'. If you know what I mean... *blush*

I have NO IDEA what you are squawking about GT3Films. We're also blinded by your blushes! Could you be more specific, or do I have to beat it out of you? The helmet doesn't help HEYAAH! Heehee

I wanted to say something about these very interesting birds but g3t films made me laugh so hard.

These birds are amazing or shall I say the person who photographs these birds is amazing. I luv you Anon! Tsup!

I tried to get some good bird shots in California-but I didn't have my good zoom and the birdies didn't much care for my presence.

Gaaaaaaawd! Do I have to spell everything out to you burdbrains! I meant Orgasm, OK, ORGASM! The freak'n crows make a sound like someone having an ORGASM! Haven't you ever heard one? What? Not even the noisy neighbour and her 6 foot 3 latino boyfriend that time when he brought home that illegal dildo with the multi-speed vibrating function? Geeesssh, haven't you ever had an ORGASM? I mean, I bloody well hope you have! That way you can tell me what it's like... seriously, I'm like 12 years old and nobody will tell me these things... come on... please... stop being so mean... I'll tell my mum on you... I WILL!

...

the moment the plumber finishes fixing her pipes in the ensuite

...

wait a minute... she doesn't have an ensuite?!

Oh well Debra Kay, maybe you needed birdies focused on other birdies to not notice or in my case NO RAIN when on holidays ;)

Sheeeesh, understanding Crows like that, I thought you'd know just as much about Parrots GTFilms :O I fully understand why blushing birds wanted to beat you senseless! I think they succeeded :)HEEEYAAAH!

Why are they nesting at this time of year?

Anonymous said...

I don't know about in New Zealand, but in Australia, Great Cormorants breed most months of the year ElizT :)

Yes, I am as subtle as a delicate slice of lemon... being wrapped around a gold brick and smashed into the side of ones head.

Name the literary reference and win a prize!

Shock value has its place... mostly in the toilet... but that's a place! Right?

my Butcher birds have taken to Knocking the galahs out of the feeder! they are like little fighter planes!

Runcible birds!

I was being subtle too GT3Films when LOUDLY saying I had NO IDEA what you were squawking about. You might need a ball cock around here, which is a self-regulating device controlling the supply of flow by means of a float connected to a valve that opens or closes changing the level of seepage. Your mouth is dribbling from a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster smashing your brains out! HEEEYAH!

HAHHAA, that must be amusing to watch Simon, especially with the Butchers being a whole lot smaller than the Galahs :)

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* My goodness I'm learning a lot visiting you bird anon lol.

Do those cormorants borrow the ravens used and discarded nests? Just wondering if they are being green and recycling Tsup*?*

Anonymous said...

Tsup*!* Tsup*!* Bimbimbie! With all the rain of late, our conversations have seeped into plumbing. I’m learning along with you ;)

That's a very good question and one I also asked because the Great Cormorant nests looked suspiciously like those of Australian Ravens AND these were more than 10m above ground! However, I've found no information indicating either bird 'borrows' the other's nest, but wouldn't be surprised if they tore each other's apart for material :)

Well slap me on the wrist and call me Susan! I go away for a day and the blog goes ballistic. I never thought of crows as sexy beings . . .especially trying to photograph two eating rabbit entrails last Saturday but every time I went out with my camera a car came along the road and scooted them, complete with orgasmic wa waaa waaaaaaaah! into the bush. God, hope I don't sound like that in bed! Now I've completely forgotten what the photos were!

Bimbimbie said...

Tsup*!* They (the ravens) just appear to be a tad upset don't they ... perhaps it's their version of Goldilocks - "who's been brooding in my nest" or some such thing Tsup *!*

Anonymous said...

HAHAHHAA, *slap* Susan! It's taken me all day steering the conversation away from crows being sexy! Rabbit entrails not only torn by beaks but splattered by car tyres followed by Raven screams might just finalise the horror of it all Baino :)

Tsup*!* Bimbimbie, the same thought occurred to me without Goldilocks in the picture. There were Great Cormorants building nests at the same time, but they might have only been adding extensions due to their greater size :)

Watch out they don't poop on your camera when you're getting those underneath shots!

Melissa said...

Great shots, Anon! I love that top one, he's coming in for a landing. I wish I had had my camera with me yesterday while waiting for Charlotte at the bus stop ... a heron flew right over me! I forgot to tell you, as we left for the writer's retreat last Friday ... I passed a heron at a pond. Good ol' totem!

Anonymous said...

Heehee, we have a Mr Pigeon who visits and comments to do that Tony Larocca. I don't even have to take his picture :)

There is a lot of poised suspense in what might happen next in that first image Melissa! That must have been an exciting surprise for you to see at a very appropriate time :)

There's a couple down the hall from me who keep doing it in the early evening. She is very very loud.

Thank god for headphones and Youtube dot com!

A couple of crows Catnapping? Why weren't you napping like you're supposed to?

Miladysa said...

Whow - BIG birds :-D

We have a rookery on the corner and there exists records of its existence dating back 800 years. I'll try and get a photograph of it for you :-D

Anonymous said...

Yes please Miladysa! I wonder if they are finally moving into your backyard now (after kicking out your Magpies) ...?

Miladysa said...

OMG - I hope not - they are like hundreds and thousands!

I was thinking about it the other day though and although my tree is not the 'highest' - there are some above just before the moor - it is probably the tallest that you can see from the dell.

Anonymous said...

Hhahha, hundreds and thousands in the colour of black only! Thinking of cupcakes ;) Lets hope they don't see your tree from the dell ... :O
