Good photo subjects Simon! That one under your kayak is extra resting from darting :)

RED MOJO said...

Simon, I don't want to alarm you, but how long has it been under there?

Anonymous said...

Hhehheheee Red Mojo, Simon's nose knows ... ;)

OK Anon - admit it - just how did you manage to get this Darling Darter to pose so elegantly for you?

NO...

don't tell me...

Jack used pot as a threat?

;-D

That's right Miladysa! Just like how Jack threatened to bite my head off but WORSE!

The Australian Darter or Australasian Darter (Anhinga novaehollanda-ahoy) is a species of bird in the darter family, Anhingidae.

Darters are circum-equatorial, tropical, subtropical or editorial. They inhabit either fresh or brackish water and can be found in lakes, rivers, marshes, swamps, at parties in the punch bowl, estuaries, bays, lagoons kitchen sinks, and mangrove swamps. They tend to gather in flocks sometimes up to about 1 or 2 birds but are highly territorial when asleep. Most are sedentary and do not play golf, however the populations at extreme distributions may start tight-rope walking.

Oh Anhinga. Oh Anhingidae. Oh novaehollanda-ahoy!

Oh novaehollanda-ahoy Professor Fufu-u! I wonder if Simon was able to disturb the highly territorial Darter under his kayak!?! I think HE might be 'asleep' now hehehheee. It was probably like being punched in a bowl...

Darting is a tough business!

Looks like he's enjoying that sunbath! We have vultures around here who do the same thing ... but they don't look nearly as lovely! :)

We saw heaps of these on our trip up to Lake Macquarie on the weekend. It's so much fun to see a little head pop up from underwater fishing before it casually disappears again for another minute.

It would be tiring darting all the time Debra Kay!

Hmmm, I can't think of any bird who does that and looks as unlovely doing it as a vulture Melissa! Poor vultures ... ;)

Those little heads popping up then disappearing for a minute are photographic nightmares G3T Films! Hey, I almost darted to Lake Macquarie last weekend :)

Did Melissa really write the 'vulture' word or am I is my imagination overactive?

Anon - do you ever exhibit your photographs away from the blog?

Anonymous said...

Miladysa, Melissa really DID write that word! I've only been photographing birds for a year but have kept the best shots in large format on CD. The best of those will be used for something someday ... want another year's practise before exhibiting!

Ces Adorio said...

Oh the word is "darting"! At first, I could not see very well. Now I get it.

We have both black (with a black head) and turkey vultures (with a pink head) here ... I'm glad they do their job well, but boy are they ugly. I do enjoy seeing them fly in big groups -- they look like mobiles! Sometimes a tree will get filled with them and then one of them does something offensive (believe it or not, they are very snooty about public displays of affection) and they all burst out of the tree at once!

Anon - How exciting! I think an exhibition would be marvellous - I wonder if all your blogger friends will be able to make it when you do and discover WHO you really are :-D

On another note I imagined that Vultures only lived in Africa and Indian - maybe deserts but certainly not with Melissa.

I also think Ms Ces was being rather rude and referring to the 'F' word. *gasp*

kj said...

i like that the "f" words are surfacing more F-reely. i take a certain pride in our collective loosening ups. (except please: avoid bodily functions. ces does it anyway to annoy me)

anon, is the simple truth that australia/where you live is simply stunningly beautiful? i am always amazed.

ps anon, will you come to my yard-art fair and sell your photographs? you could wear a bag over your head for security purposes....

Baino said...

Haha and exhibition would be fab, I'd buy a ticket no worries! Love the darters, they stay still long enough for a photograph which is very compliant of them! Ours do play on the golf course but never seen one take a birdie!

Anonymous said...

We are hanging around the pool Ces, but still resting from exertions like darting or farting :)

I can imagine a large group of vultures looking like mobiles Melissa! Is that because they circle and don't stay in a 'usual' formation? HAHHAAA, how "snooty" of them about public affection!

Thankyou Onedia :)

Heeheeee, now that would not only give away my name but location Miladysa! Might have to exhibit in a swamp or something ... I am ANON! I keep repeating that. Melissa shows public affection all the time and Ces farts!

Feel Free KJ! See my Photography Anonymous blog to answer that question, but I'm taking a rest until after Winter to continue posting there. Your Yard-Fart is a distance away, especially wearing a paper bag over my head. I'd get lost!

No one will ever find me to buy a ticket! I also don’t turn up when exhibiting ;) The Darters are good models Baino! They won't be shot on your golf course like other birds on golf courses around here!

Miladysa said...

I would just like to publicly state that I've never farted in my life.

The odd bottom burp or two perhaps but nay 'farts'.

Anonymous said...

I said Ces farts! I'm sure you "spray an aroma" every now again with bottom burping, Miladysa :) That's like perspiring and not sweating ;)

kj said...

i cannot participate in this discussion. my face is all wrinkled up into proper confusion. even miladysa. please dear god, spare me from ces' response to all this.

Anonymous said...

You need to close your eyes again KJ :) Or better still wear a paper bag over your head!! HAHHAHHHAAA

Miladysa said...

Thugs sweat, men perspire and Ladies... well WE GLOW!

Anonymous said...

Of COURSE Miladysa! *chuckles with handkerchief concealing ORAL CAVITY*
HAAHAA!!!

kj said...

awh, that miladysa is quite wise, isn't she? i'm glowing......
