Ong Gank

The female Australian Shelduck says "Ong Gank"!

The Wandering Whistling-Duck has a distinctive high-pitched twittering whistle.

The female Blue-billed Duck has a weak "Quack", especially underwater.

The male when on display makes a low drumming note - this one is wearing his breeding colours but not interested in joining an orchestra!

Not great photos which is why they have been thrown into the same pool. The Lorikeets aren't the only noisy ones! Heehee.

These guys are gorgeous. What colors! Just amazing. It's so much fun seeing all these different ducks.

Ong Gank Red Mojo! HAHA thanks, many people think a duck is a duck, so posted the bad images anyway. I can see you all checking out your Spring ducks already :) There are more - later!

Oh, the Shedduck with her lovely eye shadow-she's a glorious bird.

I live in the suburbs, but there is a junior college with a pond nearby. I guess the huge goose that flew over my backyard yesterday was enroute. I've never seen one fly so low...

I think they are great photos- I have 3 bird books and Isometime I have to refer to 3 before I get to identify a bird. These photos make them easy to identify!
And thats what is all about!

The Aussie Shelduck IS painted brightly, Debra Kay :) Are you able to sneak into the Junior College before or after hours and photograph pond residents? I'd love to see some posted! I also live in the suburbs but we have lots of parks and reserves in Australia and I tend to leave out buildings from photos, so it looks like we are lost in the bush :)

Thanks Simon, being able to identitify the birds is what these photos ARE all about :)

I agree with everyone so far, glorious and interesting photographs.

You learn something every day, a duck is not just a duck ;-D

Thanks Miladysa, crisper photos next time. QUACK! Close (or cropped) photos can give a lot of information and much nicer than identifying birds from their pooh which is what I'm trying to do in real life now ... ;)

Albrecht von Krappa, are you at a party listening to Neunundneunzig Luftballone in 1999?

She sounds German. I would love to see all of these ducks in a pond. That must be a sight to behold. I always love colorful ducks and mallards. Your photographs make them look even more special. Ong dank!

Wow, what beauties!! I love the white eye markings on the shelduck and the blue bill's mighty fine in his "dating" outfit. The whistler looks quiet and shy. While waiting for the bus Charlotte and I have been "talking" to the Canada geese, "Honka-ronk!" :)

From their poo??

Oh me Oh my!

Quackers ;-D

You are seeing all these ducks in a pond Ces! They are actually in different ponds on different days, not even ponds but lagoons. Ong Dank Ces ... that's the nicest thing you've said to me :)

Check the Blue Bill's tail Melissa! It's spiny and stiff, usually carried on the water's surface or upright :) ANOTHER Goose! Debra Kay saw one flying over her back fence - SPRING is on its way over there ... "Honka-ronk" has been added to the orchestra ;)

Hhehheheee, NOT quackers Miladysa! It's really helping spotting birds in the bush I might otherwise walk past! Won't be posting photos of that ...

Miladysa said...

I'm only joking Anon. I was brought up doing things like that - you wouldn't believe me if I told you half of it ;-D

Heehee, please don't post photos of 'that' either Miladysa ;)

Wow, I'm glad they're in different locations! I was beginning to think you owned a duck sanctuary or were raiding Centennial Park for your own devious purposes!! Very pretty, I haven't seen many of these before.

i cannot keep up with these gorgeous ducks (being a member of the duck family myself you know).

i especially love seeing their feet beneath the water.

I DO raid Centennial Park Baino! Heehee. The Pacific Black and Chestnut Teals are a lot more common. I tend to ignore ponds a bit because expect them to be filled with those two, but after a year of bird stalking and focusing on areas (like water right now) beginning to 'not switch off' where the commons are concerned. Finding surprises because of it!

I'll be showing more than feet underwater when we see extreme sporting KJ!

I have said nice things to you before.

True Ces, but Ong dank is the nicest! You don't know what it means, do you ... ;)
