Those long snd skinny legs move fast even if the body appears to be cruising at slow pace. Super Model material and legs for a mini :)
Black-winged Stilts prefer freshwater and saltwater marshes, mudflats, and the shallow edges of lakes and rivers.
i bet even Naomi Campbell's jealous of those lanky legs...
YES Gledwood! But I don't think Naomi would be envious of how sunburnt they appear ;) They are little more like Twiggy's colouring on a cold day or after the beach!
Oh Bless him!
What long legs he has...
What a long beak he has...
Little Lanky Larry ;-D
Brilliant shots!
BTW King Parrot ( whom I have named Elvis - the king get it?? ahahaha)
is alive today and quite cranky. So its off to the vet for a mended wing.
For rehabilitation what size cage Anon? I will buy one asap.
He was funny to follow Miladysa ! I think he was actually walking at a very slow pace, but it was difficult to keep up! Little Lanky Larry is a great name ... he grows to 39cm but I don't know if that includes his legs - no it doesn't! He’s a medium to large size, so this particular one was probably a teenager. I'm sure those ridiculously long legs looked more than a metre long. Hehheee.
Great news your King Parrot has good chance of survival, Simon. You will need a license or permission to rehabilitate him, so wait until the vet tells you what happens next before buying anything. Chances are you'll be given a cage if going to be his carer Simon :)
yes thats right, so the vet has told my daughter..it will go to wires.
I love this one's stilts, and the black cape it's wearing. Very interesting looking bird.
Oh dear, a lesson learnt not to name a rescued bird for as long as possible Simon. Although I remember you naming lizards with only very limited contact :) Thanks to you he will be wild again very soon! Imagine! Wires should be able to keep you updated on his progress :)
The black cape and nape is interesting Red Mojo ... I almost didn't see it from gawking at his slender, pink legs!
It must be twiggy being like that. But the twigs move through the water easily I imagine.
Twiggy would like that Modroom! Yes, they would work better in the water than the stilts humans sometimes try to walk with :)
Agree Modroom, those humans should have Stilts walking for them. 8P
I tried Stilton but I squashed it when I walked.
Vet update:- wing very badly broken and almost torn off. Puncture wounds consistant with a cat attack. They have set the wing and pleased with result. Puncture wounds have been cleaned and the parrot will remain with the Vet until monday.
Vet very pleased with just how fiesty he is... was concerned that as a wild bird, with handling, he would "drop off"
Monday we will know if we will be his carers! I hope so, as they feed off our feeder.
:o)
You can't stilt on Stilton Cheese Modroom! Some people ARE stupid! 8P
Black and white is SO dramatic Debra Kay! You must like this one because has a cape as well :)
That's good news he's fiesty and mended Simon! Exciting news about possibilty of being a Carer; when it happens please blog about it!
What a fabulous *tall* little guy! I got a good chuckle at him this morning -- he looks like he's very dignified and trying to ignore what's going on beneath his feathers. "What legs? Oh, those ... yes ... well, they help me get around."
Pleased to hear you chuckling Melissa, you have returned the favour! Heeheheee :)
How can those skinny legs carry that plump body? Oh my gosh, it looks like a ball on skewers. On the first photo it looks like an awkward baby.
The Stilt did look a little awkward Ces, but I was also looking at it from a human perspective :)
OOoh me neck! Looks like he's all tucked up in a dinner suit. After watching the fashion awards on the news recently, he's aptly dressed in pink tights! Tres chic
HAHHAAA, maybe he was on his way from the awards to the mardi gras Baino, losing the suit for the later ;)
Can they play basketball?
ooh I like this guy... !
I'd imagine they would break their legs Ces, but that's from a human perspective ... :)
He seems to be popular Janice!
What human perspective? I thought you were a bird.
Just how do you think we could communicate if I didn't look at all the Bird Stalkers from a human perspective Ces? Yap Boo Yap Boo .... did you understand that? It was from a Black-winged Stilt's perspective ;)
