Turtle

King Jack AHHHH the light is hurting my eyes! Is that a turtle over near the swimming pool? OH it's a Spotted Turtle DOVE! Phew, for a second I thought reptiles or amphibians were entering the Morning Range, like that fish who's been getting too much attention! A bit difficult to see but she's spotted! ... Jack

Their swimming pool area isn't the greatest spot to photograph in the mornings ... lighting wise :)

But it makes for a dramatic shot Anon, so these are introduced as well, harumpf! What were people thinking....oh wait...alot of people dont think - thats got to be the trouble! Tehehe
True story, the starling was introduced to the USA by The Shakespere Society! They wanted to have all the birds mentioned in his works living there - Morons!
Ooops, I will get off my soap box now - have a great day!

Lavender, her kind were introduced from Eastern Asia in the mid-1800s and early 1900. I don't see that many around here, but they are probably a big problem not far away. The Common Starlings were originally from European deciduous woodlands, wonder if the Shakespeare Society brought them here too! :)

They feel like interior shots somehow.. like a table and a wall. Except it's a bath and a tree.

Plus a dove.

The birds do feel safe and sheltered where their swimming pool is Modroom. We thought carefully where it would be placed for that reason :)

turtle doves like in 'the first day of christmas'?? gee.

the bark in the background is great. my partner jb would be planning her found object collages with that bark as a focal point.

:)

Yes! Those doves KJ :)I heard that Paperbark trees were introduced from Australia to Florida and now a major problem spreading like wildfire! They were introduced to eradicate a type of insect. My source is on holidays, so can't check on this information :)

Oh that is a great shot of the bird. As Modroom said, it looks like an interior shot. The tree would be great to illustrate with all that texture. It sure looks like Christmas with that turtle dove. Where's the turtle?

There is NO turtle Ces! Hheheheeee

The light is dramatic, wonderful shots, and a lovely bird, but you didn't introduce the witch, she's in all three shots.

Anonymous said...

There are no turtles OR witches Hardwax :) Unless you see one in the bark ...

HARDWAX said...

Yes. in the bark over the right shoulder of the dove, as clear as the turtle dove, not as pretty though, not at all.

Anonymous said...

I see her Hardwax! She is blowing a raspberry with her lips too!

HARDWAX said...

What is "blowing a rasberry"? Is it a very friendly gesture? Is it gas? Is it a rude friendly gesture?

I'm glad you see her/him.

ElizT said...

Is it the same as the Little Spotted Dove?

Anonymous said...

Blowing a raspberry is what babies do a lot. Tightly purse your lips together Hardwax, then blow out making a rude noise :) You knew already! Yes VERY rude ... you sound friendly though
};-}

ElizT, this one isn't a 'little' bird, so probably not unless most other birds are extra big in New Zealand :)

After a google search it appears some call the 'Spotted Turtle Dove' a "Little Spotted Dove"! They are 29 to 32cm long :)

Looking at them again, they remind me of some shots those boutique portrait galleries are always advertising ... boutique portrait gallery meets european arthouse film-maker....I Love Em!

HAHA! I'm TRYING to do as traditional photographs on this blog as possible Lavender. That means these are NOT good, but looking at them from your point of view ... *could get away with that description* :))

HARDWAX said...

Yes, I agree with Lavender, there's boutique written all over them.
Speaking of 'points of veiw', Could you fly over to my blog, and tell me what kind of birds I've photograghed? I can't figure out what they are. No hurry, whenever you get a chance, sometime this year maybe.

HAHAHAHAA, those are Wood Ducks Hardwax! They don't look too wild with their feet planted into wood and surrounded by wire :)

HARDWAX said...

Thankyou. I don't know why you are laughing though.

Anonymous said...

Pleasure Hardwax :) They look a bit different from our wood ducks ... *snicker*

The back of the LSDove is a pinkish brown and yours looks pale but that could be due to the light. I find them much too trusting for their own safety around cats.

Anonymous said...

ElizT, *THIS* is the best photograph I have so far for the Spotted Turtle Dove, it is pinkish brown :) Wish I could get close enough to the ones here like your cats do!

Melissa said...

Oh, she's beautiful! What nice markings -- doves always seem so calm, and a little ... ummm, how do I say it not to offend Mz. Turtle ... dazed?

Joy Eliz said...

I honestly don't see the 'Turtle' bit...

ElizT said...

Thanks, yes, that's the one, they are lovely.

Anonymous said...

Hhahhaaa, "dazed" is how she appears Melissa! However, she's a lot sharper than appears because escapes when she sees me!

She can perform strange things with her head and neck Joy Eliz, not unlike a turtle if she had a shell :)

Mystery solved! It can be difficult when a bird has a couple of common names ElizT :)

I think the poor Jack needs glasses...

Anonymous said...

Why is that MerlinPrincesse? It might be you who needs them!

merlinprincesse said...

Because for one second, he thought that the bird was a turtle! :))) Maybe he just needs shades, after all! :)))) I'm blind without my glasses, btw... :)

Anonymous said...

Like Jack said, the light IS blinding MerlinPrincesse :) You need those window shades over your glasses :)

HARDWAX said...

Thanks for the info. I don't think my ducks are capable of doing all the stuff those amazing 'Australian Wood Ducks' do, and that makes me wonder if there's any point in taking more pictures of them. I think reproducing is out of the question.

Anonymous said...

It depends on what type of reproduction you are talking about Hardwax! Are you planning on using any woodwork skills?

Joy Eliz said...

'strange things with her head and neck'. Say no more;)

Anonymous said...

HAHA, that is only a guess Joy Eliz ;)
