Breakfast time.
After an afternoon bath.
Suddenly a youngish Magpie behaving like how Maggie did, has turned up in our backyard! Could this really be Maggie!?! The last two Winter photographs before her disappearance are below.
11th June
2nd July
13th September
Is that really you Maggie? Also, formally known as Baldie.
What do you think? Please place your votes this weekend.

The Spring Parade has been put on hold for the weekend.
The AnonyHouse is divided! The poll is beneath the movie in the right hand column. Please vote :)
Phooo this is difficult. The white patch on back of head seems to have a different edging between the two birds, but I don't know if things like that can change. I'd have to vote 'no' but don't really know what I'm talking about. Hopefully it is her.
The best way is to ask the bird. If you use a teapot it might help, talk down the spout.
It is VERY difficult Modroom but you are a Bird Stalker taking flight! The white patch on the back of her head is the place to study! I don't know if that can change either, but they do both have a slightly grey colouring which means they are both girls. You can change your vote each day until Sunday night if you change your mind. Thanks for voting :)
I did ask the bird BoiledEggInATeapot! But my teapot was busy. The neighbours think I am more a Cuckoo than a Parrot now because I keep calling Maggie out the back door to see if she arrives. Talking down a spout will make me sound louder! Thanks!
I will vote yes... Just for hope... I can't even recognize people sometimes, so birds... Hheheh :) And I will keep Mademoiselle far from the PC for a time... In case....
Wow! I love the black and white markings, and that sparkling red eye. Your birds are so different than mine, I love to see what you've posted each day!
Heehee! Thanks for voting and your hope MerlinPrincesse :) Also for keeping Mademoiselle away from the birds at ALL times ;)
Thank you Melissa! Thanks also for looking forward to seeing my birds. You will start noticing more and more about your own I'm sure!
I want one! As you must know, magpies are part of the corvidae family - my heros.
As for it being the same Maggie... doubtful as far as his/her primaries being of a different color and pattern. But it's always nice to have Maggies around, yes?
HAHA, we have a Magpie Worshiper amongst us! You look like one of our Ravens in your Avatar TsDuff :) If you click the 'Baldie' link in this post, at the bottom of the page is a photograph of her Mother. Maggie should be close to these colours now being over a year old. It's the pattern we should scrutinize! Thanks, I will try to capture this magpie more in photographs with that in mind. I should also add, this magpie arrives with Mr Magpie sometimes - so is part of their family. Thanks for voting!
I agree that it's best to ask, but be careful not to offend her, she mightn't want to be thought to look like some other bird.
She does respond when I call her "Maggie" ElizT! BUT how many other people call magpies by the same name? ALL! Hhahhaaaa. This one has adopted my naming her 'Maggie' whether a year ago or last few days. She just arrived demanding breakfast ... just like how Maggie did from in our kitchen!
How exciting! I dont think we can count on feathering to tell us what we want to know, as she was a young one and is now an adult - (and from moult to moult some minor changes can occur)....Id go on behaviour - personality, if you will. So I think - if it acts like Baldie - Its Baldie!!!
COINCIDENTALLY - I got swooped by a Magpie yesterday for the first time - as I was riding my bike, my helmet made me feel quite impervious - but finally having it happen to me makes me feel like a 'natural' australian now Tehehe
Happy parties Bearman & Niece!
I have spent a long time trying to get over a bird phobia from being attacked as a child by magpies, these big ones, like crows.
I'm caught between excitement, incredulity and suspicion Lavender! Not about you Haha. Having raised many birds, I believe you about possible 'patterning' of feathers changing :) I also think behaviour is a major factor in deciding - it's what made me suspicious in the first place! So glad the weather is beautiful again after our flash, bang, wallop snap hailstorm yesterday afternoon! On yer bike Aussie - HAHAHHAAA.
ElizT, keep visiting as often as you have and you might beat that phobia. A phobia is what started my main interest in photographing birds - getting closer to them. My eyes are protected, but a sister lost one to a bird (an iris was lost and it was an Iris that took it) when very young but now works as a Bird Rescuer! True story :)
Off for the day!
Yeah those storms yesterday had me nervously watching the new fence HAHAHA but she held steadfast - Hooray!
No time for you to bike this weekend Anon - so I will do an extra couple K's for you :)
ElizT - Anon is right - you can defeat your enemy by getting to know him! :)
I'm with Merlin Princesse. I wish it is Maggie.
Oh Maggie where can you be?
Is that you Sweet Maggie?
Please tell me so.
'Cause I love you so so so!
That's the way aha aha I like it!
I am really interested, but still find it hard to handle them. Have been whistling to rosellas this morning.
WOW everyone has been voting and it's looking like a "YES" it is Maggie! I am sleep walking ... after family emergency with hospital involved last night and only three hours interrupted sleep this morning. Forgive me if I talk rubbish everyone!
WHA I haven't checked on the Wattlebirds since the hail storm Lavender. MUST do that in a minute! Thanks for doing those Ks for me, feel like partying tomorrow for me? ;)
Ces, you are nuts! HAHAHHAHHHAAA
It's a very slow process ElizT. I was brought up with similar in this backyard, but then suddenly backed away. Many years later, I gardened and conversed with the birds (because did still really love them) for a good ten years BUT at arm's length. With Jack's and the occasional other foster bird’s arrival, I learnt to be intimate with a bird! That's when I went out with my camera to find a further closeness with birds I'd been slowly edging back towards for quite a long time. With a camera in front of my eyes ;) I’m still getting there … Jack might peck my eyes out!
Thanks. There was also the time I trod on a fallen birdlet with my little bare foot, can only hope it was already dead.
I hope all is well in the anonyfamily now.
Now that is guilt ElizT. Maybe one day you will save a birdlet's life!
Apart from being delusional through lack of sleep, AnonyFamily is recovering. Visiting other's blogs instead of answering comments here for a while ... :O
Slow and steady wins the race Anon, and I did those K's for you - probally can only party for you in spirit tommorrow tho Tehehe Im sure tonight will be better - fingers crossed!
Party in spirit please Lavender! It's back to the hospital ... I might be missing tomorrow ...
OH! Let us know if everything is all right as soon as possible! I'm worried! :(
Who ever she is, she is quite a beauty! What a regal lookin' gal!
NNNNNNNNooooooooooo!!! Egads! Hang in there!
NNNNNNNNooooooooooo!!! Egads! Hang in there!
I wish I could do that MerlinPrincesse!
She is indeed very regal looking Princess Pepper Cloud! Shhhhh, don't let Jack hear you!
I feel your pain Lavender ... twofold!
The poll will extend until my morning, hopefully when moving on. Manboy (eldest son) most probably doesn't have Meningitis but has the symptoms of the virus. No other information for now. Thank you to those who emailed, I will reply when able and visit your blogs.
You can! Thanks! Sending good thoughts to Manboy... :)
Blah, not yet MerlinPrincesse. Thank you :)
