Walking on Water

Dusky Moorhens can walk on water!

With a little help from plants.

Look at those legs!

Where did the post below come from!?! Jack wasn't in the SWAMP!

Wow that water is a bit deep for that swamphen. What are the plants covering the water? Are they native plants? Our swamps and lakes here have been choked by lily pads that some irresponsible plant collector got from Asia and threw away in the wetlands.

This is a BIRD blog Ces, but if you must know, a number of aquatic weeds have established in this area, including
Papyrus, Taro and Canna Lily. The floating plants are definitely WEEDS Ces! The Salvinia molesta has spread throughout the wetland and is especially dense in the lightly vegetated areas.

Are the vegetated areas your heads?

No BoiledEggInADeckchair. They might be bumpy and stick out from water but they are plants and not head 'lands'! Unless you are an insect, or smoke a pipe :)

Handsome hens, Id say they have a more 'athletic' build than most waders - nice shots all!
Have sent message to Gandalf re: fireworks - Thanks Anon!

I am sorry. I know this is a bird blog but the weeds are in the environment of the much beloved birds, so we are still talking about the birds, right?

Lavender, did you send a Carrier Pigeon to warn Gandalf? Heehee.

That's right Ces, unlike what Perriette and KJ want, it is sometimes necessary to learn something about the bird's environment :)

A Jesus bird! Where is that crucifix?

Anonymous said...

Yes, he was probably walking on plants too. The crucifix drowned Perriette.
