Australian Raven

The Ravens are the only birds that won't pose for a backyard photograph. At least they give me plenty of practise focusing beyond the branches!

Had to chase this one about just to snap these photos! One day ... I used to have a special relationship with this family when there was a vegetable garden, but now they seem to have forgotten me!

Great shots even though he didn't pose for you. I put peanuts out for the jay birds in the morning and sometimes the crows/ravens will come down & take the peanuts before the jays have a chance. I'm hoping one of these days I'll get a shot of that.

Thanks Sharon ... a bit of a challenge for me :) They are here almost every day but like to stay high above the others! Be sure to let me know when you have a photograph of yours!!

Oh one time I read about how to spot a raven from a crow. It was very interesting but I have forgotten whose blog it was. I love their name "Raven" and of course I get goosebumps when I read Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven"

OOOHHHH I love Edgar Allan Poe's ANYTHING Ces };-} The differences between Ravens and Crows is different depending on where you live. We don't get Crows in my area, nearly all in Australia are Ravens!

Crows are nasty anyway. You are not missing anything. A flock of them attack the pedestrians at the City Hall. A woman had to be taken to the hospital. I swould have loved to have been the triage nurse.
"What happened?"
"I was attacked by crows!"

The ravens are more poised and their feathers are well groomed.

Oh dear Ces! Here is a LINK about the difference between the two

I love Ravens too! Yes, they always hang out very high - dont get any in the backyard but do get the Magpies....
I think I have a thing for the Corvines, I wonder if its sort of a 'poor girls Raptor' thing?
These are great clear shots Anon, even with all the branches youve still got Raven good and clear.

Anonymous said...

But are you Australian KJ? HAHAHHAHHAAAA

Ravens and Magpies are very clever! That's probably why you have a 'thing' for them, Lavender :) The Ravens do show on the ground when we have a barbecue, but the weather has been awful lately ...

Ewwe...those eyes...
We only have Crows around here - They're not as pretty.

Anonymous said...

Joy Eliz, would you believe me if I told you two I knew really well had human eyes? One had brown eyes, and one had blue };-}

Ahhh, beautiful Raven, how I love thee. Sitting so regal up in that tree. When Anon passes, please do pee.

A Raven is my daemon. That is post I keep forgetting to do.

Anonymous said...

A poet certainly isn't your daemon Perriette!

Anonymous said...

You are only saying that because he peed on you now you are pissed (on)! heheheheheeee

Anonymous said...

Perriette, have you checked what's dripping from your teacup lately?

Joy Eliz said...

Yes, I would... They're shape-shifters... Bwahahahaha!

Anonymous said...

Joy Eliz, it isn't FUNNY! It's TRUE!!!!! These two must carry the souls of dead ... can't be friends must be ancestors!

Joy Eliz said...

Which ancestors though? And ask them to remove curse!

Anonymous said...

Actually Joy Eliz, it IS THOSE ancestors! Only one has blue eyes ;)
