Silver Lilly Pilly

Next visit to the wetlands I found this Silvereye collecting insects from a Lilly Pilly tree. The only insects to attack the fruits are Psyllids, however Silvereyes attack Lilly Pilly fruits too!

Breakfast time for me too! Lilly Pilly (also spelt Lilli Pilli or Lillipilli) fruits can be eaten by humans ... the BATS raid our tree with purple fruits and we have purple footpaths for a couple of weeks each year.

MerlinPrincesse, I overfed Gertrude!?! It's the Silvereye bird, not the Lilly Pilly fruits that are supposed to be cute!

Both the birds and the Lilly Pilly fruits are cute which is a reason why I took a detour and googled Lilly Pilly. As you say its fruits are edible and I also read quite delectatble. I just read that Silver eyes are considered orchard pests. It's a good thing they don't eat tomatoes, or do they?

There are over 60 different varieties of lilly pilly fruits and some can be sour and vary in taste, which is why they are better made into jams, Ces! I have eaten many raw when bushwalking. Hehehe, Silvereyes eat grapes AND tomatoes Ces! I've only seen them in their 'natural environment' eating native fruits :)

What?!!! How could one so cute eat my favorite homegrown tomatoes?

They are also known to fly great distances Ces :)

Mmmmm....... Now that I take a closer look....those birds seems overfed too. Did you put sugar on the lilliililiwiouuupulliiiiwus...?Watever you call them? Uhoh! And they fly far far away to see your tomatoes, CES...Hhhhehehe....

MerlinPrincesse, Lilly Pillies have high pectin content, but still add sugar when making jam YUMYUM! Hheheheee, the Silvereyes haven't flown as far as Ces's house ...yet ... :)

These birds are so tiny about the side of a little tomato in your hand, the one that a black bird did not eat.

The US is not so far from Australia. If you look at the world map (depending on the size) there are only eight inches between the two countries. Hahahaha!

I have to go and brew coffee now.

Oh dear, the black birds ate all but one of your tomatoes Ces? Are you sure that one left isn't really a Silvereye? Heehee.

I think we have turned into birds instead of being stalkers because DRINK TOO MUCH COFFEE!!!! Mwhahahhaaaa
