I LOVER some burn curry, Alana's weepin' planes, A rag-'ead mounted rangers, A drowsin' flood un-reins. I love 'er Farrah Risens, I, love 'er Jewel "C", A bewdy, Anna Terra! Ah, why, brown lamb firm me! And hope the Spotted Turtle Dove flies back to eastern Asia with a sunburn *HAHA! BWARK*! Bushfire smoke can turn the light to orange in Sydney, so don't be fooled by the colour of the Dove's feathers! ... Jack

Dorothea Mackellar wrote the poem Jack quoted! I'm getting the feeling Jack and I need a holiday ...
Will slooooowly be visiting you all but might take days .... that is until Monday :) (internet connection)
Jack quotes in his own unique style! The poet's poem suits these images very well. The Doves are curious orange.
Jack's diction needs improvement Modroom :) Often a Summer afternoon has this lighting, but this particular day it was around lunchtime. Earlier that day I closed all the windows and doors due to smell of stinky bush fire.
A fire out your way? As you said - those fires take a lot of dealing with. I've packed my car full of animals, birds, people... yes, and how funny that you mentioned yearbooks. When I went through the fire in 1971, I packed my precious high school yearbooks. Later, in 1998 my house in Walnut Creek burned. I lost my yearbooks in that fire. Isn't it ironic? :)
Keep your nose covered.
Nice poem!
Oh, and are your doves as silly as ours... building the most flimsy nests ever (using perhaps 2 twigs) on a lone branch, where the eggs can just blow right off? Not a lot of brains there... which is why they are on the bottom of the birdie food chain.
Hhahaaa, that fire was about ten kilometres away (six miles) which is pretty standard on and off until around March next year. My parents house is a very different story because they live on the bush! YES, photo albums are the first to evacuate with - although there is now access to having a 'personal blog' for storing copies of photographs - if have the time and they haven't already burnt! How awful :(
I haven't spotted a dove's nest but might have just thought it was a branch that fell and landed in a funny way! Heehee. I'll be more fine eyed when around them now ... thanks TsDuff!
HAHAHAHA Jacks version is hysterical!!!
The 'fire light' makes an interesting effect...but will keep fingers crossed for your folks!
No worries about the visits - we know you'll come around when you can...hope when the nets down, you find lots of other fun things to do :)
Jack has developed a real Aussie accent Lavender :) Luckily family home isn't in immediate danger, but can't count the number of times we were evacuated when growing up! The closest was losing the garden and next door lost their verandah. I have before and after photographs somewhere which I'll link to in the comments before tomorrow ... if can upload them! Blah. I'll be working on the 'Wildflower' photographs for Ces when offline :)
Lucky HAHA, already had the BEFORE and AFTER fire images at family home uploaded on an old blog. If you look closely, the tree on the left is the same one. The ‘thankyou’ note on the burnt one was from my sister to the fire bug! She was being sarcastic …
Dang! I cannot keep up with all of you. I feel like like a 100 years old with all of your energy. I have been dragging. I think I need to go to the infirmary. Nice sun. Where are my shades?
You are recovering from the flu Ces! Besides you have until Monday to catch up with my posts because I'm moving like a 200 year old until then - due to internet connection. I'll see you at yours after Monday! PS: Don't sleep in the sun until Monday or your face will be covered in blisters apart from Robin Hood style eye stripe Heehee *tweet*!
EGADS - that was a bad one....paradise to moonscape! Very dramatic pics Anon. Wouldve been a very tense time :(
I was struck by the landscape revealed by the fire. Wow... so beautiful, like a stone bowl. We have some places like that tucked away here, but I don't think they are as dramatic.
I have two pair of doves warring in my back yard. Each believing it is "their" home territory. They have mad hoot-off's. My youngest son torments them by making the same call...now all he has to do is go outside and they start in on him, sometimes they get so pissed they dive bomb with a horrible KKAAAaaaa in disgust.
All four of them are wrong, they are Chinese doves that were bought as pets and then let loose here. The native Turtle Doves have been driven out, :| along with song birds that they think are a threat. Stupid people!!!
i just love the muted color and light. your backyard is its own movie scene, anon. and then there's your eye....
Trying to remember what year that was Lavender ... think it was 2004; seen many times the same dramatic change in that landscape. The scene already looks like the first photograph again :)
It was a nice place to wake up to in the mornings whether burnt or not LDahl :) Our spotted Turtle Doves were introduced mid-1800s and early 1900s - now they are EVERYWHERE!
Thanks KJ :) Also thank you for your enthusiasm on my photo blog (I only post there once a week)
;)
HAHA a male Common Koel (Cuckoo)was just here, but you can't see it until I'm up to the 'Afternoon Delights' :)
wow ... what a poem! I really loved the sound of the words! I'm glad you're safe, Jack, too. My mom always had our photo albums in one spot and she always told us, "If the house is burning down, grab the photo albums!" :) I have this mental image of her running from a burning house with her hair on fire and the albums raised victoriously in her hand.
the colour in these photos amazes me. it's like sculpture from terra cotta.
the poem by jack fits great. not a bad poet for a bird!
I thought for a second that you finally slipped Jack some rum.
HAHAHAA, it's like that Melissa - regarding photo albumns! After evacuating so many times, those and the pets are really all that matter. I was laughed at for adding potplants but didn't think I could live without the greenery of plants if everything turned black!
It had all been in a raku kiln 'I'm a cool cat, daddio'! I even gathered my clay from there (when wet). If you read Jack’s poem out loud, you’ll discover it’s Dorothea Mackellar who wrote Jack’s poem :)
Hhehehhee! Jack's just helping you with an Aussie accent Perriette!
Well I didn't know they were introduced. Are they the ones that go 'wooo' and have a squeaky noise whenthey take off or am I mixing my Crested's with my Turtles . . .I am now motivated to kill some great piece of poetry in the style of Jack . .loved it! Might go and attack some Edgar Allan Poo
Baino, they are introduced and as far as I know all doves and pigeons go 'wooo' and their wings squeak when they take-off! Looking forward to your killing of a great piece of poetry HAHA!! Perhaps you could save Poo Poetry for flushing on the 31st ;)
Just lovely!
