Mr

King Jack Mr Magpie doesn't mind the intensity of midday sun; it shows his 'black sheen' to it's fullest radiance ... Jack

It's very hot.

Where's your bus driving hat Mr Totties? Your Tiddly Moor skin could end up with third degree burns!

He is just gorgeous! I love your accent, Anon! :) I think it's wonderful and love to listen to it. I think my accent must sound like a coffee grinder down there. Ha ha! We've had a pileated woodpecker hanging around here -- he's enjoying some dead trees my father-in-law just cut down. Grubs for the eatin'!

Mr Magpie knows that :) Melissa, we have many dialects in Australia, even with differences between suburbs in Sydney! That Aussie you heard on the radio might be from the outback! In that case, I might not even be able to understand what he was saying ;) YUM YUM, grubs for tucker! Heehee.

So handsome, nice shots Anon!
And I know youd love a Pileated Woodpecker - most woodpeckers look very similar, but the Pileated is bigger than the Magpie! I only saw one - once!
Come to think of it, Ive never seen a Magpie panting in the heat like other native birds...have you?

I've never seen a panting native bird in the heat Lavender! HAHA. There are a couple of birth baths in the backyard and a lagoon a block away, which would explain my blindness to panting :) However, I've often wondered whether Mr Magpie's sleek black wings are protected from the sun by an oil coating. He will stand in rays when it's burning my face and be quite unperturbed about it, even wearing black!

Oh yes, youre most likely right there....oil from the preen gland must be oily (!!?!!) Perhaps the Magpies have extra special oil stuffs.....I think the heat has got to me today....
Hope your hail storm free Anon :)

Please, what are birth baths? Do the mummy birds go there when in labour, to be helped in the water by midbirds? You Australians are so innovative [that's eenovaytiv].

Highly likely oil is oily Lavender! Hhehhehe. They also have very strong feathers, so probably don't feel a thing because the feathers act like umbrellas! Hail the size of rockmelons is North Lavender ... so far!?!

A bird bath will be posted tomorrow just for you ElizT! It has nothing to do with 'birth' but is for the 'birds'. We even turn kangaroo balls into purses here!
