Mr Magpie and one of the birdbaths just for ElizT! This birdbath is also known as the bird's swimming pool :)

Gorgeous shots Anon - dont know where to start! :) The bath itself I covet, nice one! Magpie certinally does know how to display himself, what a great location for a 'shoot' tehehe The clivia in the background adds wonderfully to the drama!

When people say they want birds in their garden without feeding them, I say get a bird bath! Baths work like magic to add wings to a backyard show :) Mr Magpie knows how to mix fire with water to create excitement - that's for sure Lavender!!

Mr Magpie needs a bungie rope when he leaps off the bird bath.

His wings look like an umbrella BoiledEggInADeckchair! See them catching the wind? Besides ... it's not THAT far down! Heehee.

He could do an impression of Mary Poppins on an elastic band, it's about time someone did. It could be a hit in the showbiz world.

HAHA, I thought you were giving 'show biz' tips BoiledEggInADeckchair! Mr Magpie doesn't need help, especially if an elastic band is involved. I think you are jealous Egghead! Elastic bands and plastic bottle rings can be very harmful to a bird. So can Mary Poppins!!!

I don't need telling what's harmful to birds, I need action. You could shoot Mr Magpie through a window with a catapult, that would make a better picture.
I'm going now.

You want 'action' BoiledEggInADeckchair?
*CRUNCH*!

He's stunning! Magpies and Crow are my favorite birds...they're always into mischief....so, sooooo intelligent. and noisy.

Anonymous said...

He is indeed stunning Felinymous! The Crows and Magpies mostly behave themselves around here. The crows stay high, but sometimes the Magpies help themselves into the kitchen! We are soon to fix a screen door and will see how long it will take them to open that! :)

I am honoured, thank you; and I like your bath/pool, also the way you have planted the clivia to match Jack.
[I have done a post for you as well].

ElizT said...

Meant to say, I like the way the little birds seem to swim or flap across the deep parts of ours.

Mr Magpie enjoyed showing off just for you ElizT; he wants you to know he is the one who matches the Clivia using opposites from the colour wheel. I don't know what colour he thinks his feathers are but guess black suits everything :)

Even the big birds like swimming and flapping in the deep end, that's if I'm doing a good job being a pool lady. Water restrictions mean the pool has to be topped up with a heavy watering can!

A new post? Will go see ElizT!

Great shots, Anon! Makes me want a bird bath of my own ... for ME to sit in! :) Actually, I have been known to sit in the kids' little pool on hot days when they're not looking ... ha!

Anonymous said...

HAHA, we still put the kid's pool out for Summer even if none of us are kid sized anymore, Melissa ;) It's been sat in for most Christmas days, including by visitors :)

Talking about BIRD Baths ... everyone go visit the latest Mocking Typo Matron's post at *ElizT’s*!

I've got some photos of me in a bath.

*VOMIT* Mr Totties!

In the photos there's two bleached prunes and a walnut floating on the water.

You are muddying these Australian waters with floaters MR Totties! Keep OUT of the Birdbath!!!

RED MOJO said...

I think Mr Totties was talking about bits of his anatomy, not floaters.
The magpies are beautiful and the photos are fantastic. I love all the color.
The magpies I had in my yard in California, used to dive bomb my dog, and try to chase him out of his own yard. Bullies!

kj said...

hello anon! mr magpie looks quite large. i'm not fond of bullies. in my yard it's the blackbirds and crows. they are big enough to push their weight around.

your shots are soooo cool!

Mr Tottie's bits of anatomy FLOAT Red Mojo! Excuse me ... *VOMIT!*
Magpies can be bullies, but they are only protecting what is theirs already - like the trees, sky and air around their families :)

Hi KJ! Mr Magpie is about 40cm. Australian Magpies can be up to 45cm in length! They are generally quite tame, but during breeding season (some) individuals become aggressive towards intruders which venture too close to their nest sites. So * not really bullies*, just protective about their children :) These shots are HOT KJ! Hhehheee.

Anon, I just read about the lyre birds of Australia. Will you see one soon? Mr. Magpie was the one who saw Cock Robin die.

Anonymous said...

Lyre birds are more heard than seen Ces, and I've been tricked by them many times with imitating human footsteps! I have in fact lined up a Southern lyrebird expedition later this year, but more likely will return with sound recordings than photographs :) See this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0fSZ9psef8

Mr Magpie knows more than we know!

Fabulous shots! That magpie's a handsome fellah, different to Brit magpies but you can see the family resemblance. I love em!

Thanks Bird! Hhahahaa you have a most appropriate name for around here :)
