Baino mentioned in comments below a Magpie Family in her backyard. "
They are trying to discourage their very noisy and 'time to leave the nest now son' baby . .they're quite aggressive with it but it's persistant and just won't fly away! There will be tears before bedtime"

A cue to post a Sad Story.

The other morning, youngest Son and I spent half an hour protecting a Magpie from being attacked. It wasn't a baby but it can be 'that time of year' when families squabble.

As you can see, we were a little late from protecting the Magpie from being injured.

We were also joined by an Aussie Morning Walker who helped stand over the bird and told the story below.

Now this post is out of the way, please try to enjoy this Silly Season ...
Mmnnn Our magpies are fighting with the youngest one as well.
It seems its not getting a feed and the siblings attack it too...
I am off to England in two days YIPPIE!!!!!
I hope your magpies don't over-do their fighting like what happened above :(
OOOHHHH ENGLAND! You will be having a cold and possibly snowy Christmas Simon! Have a MERRY one!!!
:)
*sniffle*
I can't bear to watch the video :[
Miladysa, the video doesn't have any attacking you can see, just an old bloke speaking over a Magpie Victory Song ...
Oh no nature is full of good and bad stories. I like the Aussie fella's contribution to the film!
Simon.. take a woolly hat!!!
thanks Modroom! will do!
We are staying near the lakes district, so it would be cool I imagine!!
oh, so sad. :( Nature has a side that I find so hard to watch. But, the accent on that Morning Walker had me play the video a couple of times because I just loved hearing it!
I don't do Sad. Stop that!
The Aussie fella did a good job Modroom!
Simon, I'd imagine anywhere in England would be 'cool'!
HAHAHA, the Morning Walker wasn't even puffing Melissa, I think he's been walking for a long time :)
OHHHHH it's good to get it all out before Christmas Day, Red Mojo :)
Like Melissa I LOVED the gentleman's accent - reminded me of a programme my mother used to watch - I think I was called the Sullivans or something like that?
[BTW Simon, The Lake District is asolutely awesome!]
The Sullivans were on a long time ago Miladysa! Don't think I ever sat down to watch it but know it was popular and the Actors had Aussie accents :)
Simon, if you are staying near the lakes I envy you, BUT... I hope you have a good warm raincoat with a hood, plus woolly hat gloves and scarf because the weather will be spiteful there! (It will be worth it though!)
Did the magpie survive Anonybird? Nature can be very harsh :( I'm off to Scotland tomorrow so I'll say ta-ta now in case I don't get the chance later - and happy holidays! xxx
Unfortunately the Magpie most probably didn't survive. There really wasn't anything we could do because too late. The injuries were already too much :(
TATA BirdInTheMeadow! Wear two pairs of woolly socks for Scotland! HAHA!! HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!
Aww . . my little nuisance has vanished! I hope I don't find his carcass somewhere in the back yard. We have two magpie families and the only time they cooperate is to shoo off the Channel Beak Cuckoos or Indian Mynas. Nature's cruel alright but families will fight!
Vanished!?! Oh no. Lets hope it decided to fly away, Baino! It's true how families bicker but when it comes to the crunch they band together with great ferocity to defend their own from others :)
Well, I'd say the violence got a little bit out of hand... perhaps too much beer at the party caused the domestic squabble :( boo hoo I love magpies, but haven't ever seen one turn on its own child. bummer.
A lot of a bummer TSDuff but have moved on now to cheerier posts :)
