Raid!

King Jack BWARK! It's an afternoon RAID! Someone lost the lid to the garbage bin and the clever birds spied a loaf of bread! NOT how to behave in an Afternoon Parade!! ... Jack

HAHA, never leave a loaf of bread within easy sight of our backyard birds! It's very unhealthy for them ...

yes , but a lot of fun to watch!

Amazing! They look stunning!

Bread? Harmful? Oh Dear... I always throw the crusts out for the birds! I had better change my ways.

Hahah . . love this. No contest as to who's on top of the pecking order! Lorikeets! Even the Cheeky Charlie's daren't do much more than make a lot of noise until their colourful cousins have had their fill! Look at the expression on the Lori's face. Crankypants!

I was wondering what all the screaming outside was Simon! It is fun to watch, but they also often behave like this over 'nothing'!

Miladysa, THIS is a post about what bread can do to ducks, but it fills other birds so they don't get their proper nutrition and their guts aren't designed to digest 'dough'.

Yes Baino, the Lorikeets RULE! Although if the Magpies and Currawongs were around it would have been a much more interesting battle! I wouldn’t try messing with THAT Lori! HAHA.

The dead bread can find no peaceful resting place with that lot around.

The bread wasn’t quite dead until this lot arrived Modroom. Thriving with penicillin from mould it was! Can't keep a loaf fresh for longer than a day with all the hot weather and thunderstorms!

soldier birds are just SO noisey!

Henry Lawson wrote they even fought over bread in 1910 Simon! "The soldier birds that picked the crumbs Beneath the infants’ stool." HAHA

That's the most beautiful bunch of garbage pickers I've ever seen!

ohmygod, if i had this scene atop my garbage can, i would be smiling for days.

:)

Must have something to do with Aussie charm, Red Mojo :) Aussies can cope with anything and look good at the same time!

Not when it's time to put the garbage out KJ! Hhehhee

Anon!! These pics are brilliant!! In the first shot I can tell what each bird is thinking, and the second shot - I didnt know the Noisy Miners had that gorgeous colour patch on the wings - isnt that lovely!!
Well caught! And the underlying (human AND bird) social commentary does not escape this art lovers attention! Tehehehe!!
Cheers!

(I have to keep my bread in the fridge to keep the moulds off - course its no where near as nice cold)

Careful when you open it Simon, it might have 'Soldier Birds' inside!

Hhehheee, thank you Lavender :) I never noticed the 'upward arrow' below the Miner's chins before! Our fridge is always full and the bread would be squashy dough from being shoved about ... I just daily try to force feed the humans with bread :)

I'd rather have these birds anytime than the mangy feral dogs we have here. Yes, a beautiful scene, though not ideal for a bird protector.

It is US who need protection from the birds when a loaf of bread is involved Ces :)

I know. It's like the time I was eating a burger at a seaside deck. Out of nowhere hundreds of seagulls came rishing in.

How did you escape Ces? I might need to know being Summer and the Season for excessive Eating. *gasp* I might sink!

They are hilarious. The Lorikeets are royalty! I love the way they cock their heads to get a better look-see.

What a colorful bunch of birdys you have around your place.

What are the little grey birds with the funny faces?

Miladysa said...

Ohhh Dear!

We feed the ducks too!

Correction, we used to feed the birds and ducks bread, it is now an early new year resolution not to!

Anonymous said...

You'll love the Lorikeets for the next couple of days then Catnapping :)

The little guys are Noisy Miners Sharon! What we all thought Mini was! If you haven't voted in the Mini Poll have a go :)

Great Miladysa! Correction, great you won't be feeding birds bread anymore :) Do a little researsh on what your Robins like to eat and you will see them for longer in your backyard :))

Scratch (cracked corn, millet, maize etc) is a cheap bird food to throw out rather than the unhealthy bread which folks seem to use profusely. Dog kibble or cat food pellets are also a safe and healthy alternative which the critters all enjoy.

How come I never have such a profusion of feathered guests at my trash bins?

Anonymous said...

Thanks TsDuff! These two types get spoilt with expensive fruit sometimes, so free old mouldy bread shouldn't be THAT enticing :) There are also many recipes that can be found online, or your local pet shop sells already mixed porridges etc.

HAHA You probably have a lid to your bin TsDuff!
