Cuckoo Two

King Jack Anon wants to show them off because it's the first time they have visited her backyard. They didn't do or say much as the film suggests. Good riddance I say! ... Jack

HAHAHA Posting more just to annoy Baino ;) These birds have personality? You be the judge ...

I liked the way it looked around towards the end of the film. Still difficult to tell what kind of a personality it has though.

That's because the are big, ugly and have no personality Modroom! Hhehhee

WHOA! Top shots Anon - I like thier patterning, very interesting....more interesting than thier personality display Tehehehehe

It might look good in a top hat and a cane doing a song and dance, but I don't suppose that happens often.

Lavender, Hmmmm their stripy banding is an 'only' asset :) You can at least hear baby Magpie wining and Jack squawking in the background of the film ;)

Modroom, not often. Not unless you stuff one including mechanical inards.

RED MOJO said...

You may as well, they look like they'd jump at the oppurtunity to stuff you!

Hhehehheee, but WHO would want a big ugly cuckoo for their mantelpiece Red Mojo? Be my guest catching one ;)

I saw a dead one on the road this morning!! At first I thought it was a Black shouldered kite ( or is that letter winged? I cannot remember)

But on closer inspection a Cuckoo!!

what a beak!

and of course i just love that sky...

:)

Haven't had a Black-shouldered Kite here Simon. Did you take the Cuckoo home to stuff, it had probably been run over so lost its stuffing :(

That's a 'channel' bill, KJ! You can hardly see the sky in these photographs, well I can't :)

That is one impressive bill! What does he eat? Looks like he could peck holes in bricks! LOL! And the red eyes ... wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley ...

oh. he can visit me ANYTIME. i love him. i wish i had more variety of loud birds here. mostly i get magpies and crows...

sometimes (because i deliberately leave out peanut butter), a common flicker will land on my windowsill, but as soon as he sees me, he will take off.

btw, i can see now that his beak is not black. but he's still gorgeous.

He looks to be nearly as big as Mr Sparks!

I was pretty surprised to hear him for some reason I thought he would sound like a fog horn or something ;)

Melissa, his favourite food is native fruit and nuts! Those bills are for plucking figs :) They'll eat some seeds and the odd baby bird aswell!

'kawk awk-awk-awk...'! MerlinPrincesse!

Magpies and crows are good Catnapping, and your Common Flicker is a beautiful bird! Don't forget you're a napping CAT! :)

I just listened to Mr Sparks say "Please" :) Miladysa, those bird calls you can hear are firstly Jack, then baby Magpie groaning like she has a belly ache, and Currawongs in the distance. THIS is the sound of a Channel-billed Cuckoo. A bit like a horn! :)

Hahaha . . I'm not annoyed, just jealous that I can't nab the bastards on film! I'm surprised they didn't have much to say, I can hear their Kwaaaark in our gum trees but buggered if I can find one to photograph!

Hhahaa I know Baino! Hheheee. They do perch very high, mostly in the tops of trees. My photos were flukes and of course they had lots to say when I wasn't filming ;)

Funny you should ask me about stuffing birds...

LAst year I did enquire about how to learn... and I turned up a blank....

The reason for asking? There was a beautiful Whistling kite hit by a truck near Mungo.. it died.. but was undamaged...

I wanted to bring it back and get it stuffed....

Anonymous said...

Now you mention it Simon, I too came up with a blank twenty years ago! So I kept the wings of an owl instead :) I had distant relatives whose house was filled with every stuffed animal you can imagine, that was thirty years ago and in West Berlin. It gave me the creeps finding the bathroom at night!

Now that is what I thought he would sound like! :)

Pleased the sound recording was to your satisfaction Miladysa! Hhehheheee.

Holy cow, that thing is terrifying! You seem to have a lot of birds in your garden that look like they eat babies for breakfast!

Anonymous said...

Bird, they only eat fruit and nuts :) Except the Butcherbirds and Magpies. OH and Currawongs ... :)
